Rebore options for a .243 to .264
« on: November 10, 2012, 02:25:59 PM »
I am picking up a .243 on Tuesday and will have it rebored to my favorite caliber .264".  I understand that the conversion to .260 Remington is easily done since it requires only minor chamber work to finish off the chamber to .260 Remington. However, I would really like to get a rimmed cartridge out of the deal.

Does anyone have the chamber dimensions for the 6,5x57R Mauser to see if the .243 Win chamber would clean up to the older Mauser round? There is plenty of places listing S&B 6.5x57R loaded ammo for sale so ammo availability isn't a problem.

Unless all the post election hoarders see a need to buy that up also.  :o

Consider a 260 chamber with a rim
...and .307 brass necked down.

...but that would be for a handloader.

Not sure of chamber dimensions, but case dimensions should give you a good idea, http://stevespages.com/page8d.htm.  Took a quick look and it seems like the shoulder on the 243 chamber may be too broad :-\   could be wrong though.  your gunsmith should know if it is possible, or you could give the 4D reamer guys a call.  They should definitely know the answer http://www.4-dproducts.com/index.php

AmmoGuide's rechamber guide doesn't list a 6.5x57R at all but it does list the 6.5x57 and it won't work, they appear to have the same dimensions. FWIW, I have a 260 Rem Handi that's a rebored 243 Superlight, it works perfect.  ;D

Sorry, but based on your settings, you cannot ReChamber your .243 Winchester firearm to 6.5x57mm Mauser because the case of the .243 Winchester is too wide at the bottom of shoulder.

It certainly would be a handload only proposition, but the 6.5x444 Imp might work too.
