44 Man, I like your idea. Lewis, I may just ask Patty to cut an Allen for me and sew it over the left breast pocket of my coveralls. There's no way I can use pockets. Gloves don't slide in and out easily and I need them for other things.

Pete, I have thought of that several times, just sewing part of an allen on the outside of the pocket but never got around to it. I said shirt, but it is my heavy hunting coat and a lighter wt one for warmer seasons. The way the rounds stick up out of the pocket, getting at them with gloves has not been a problem. Of course I always try to wear a lighter wt leather glove on my shooting hand. Speaking of gloves it looks like you are going to have 'real' Michigan weather up there for deer season on Thursday and that will mean 'heavy' clothing! Enjoy the hunt and good luck! 44 Man

I set this up because I like to ride out into the desert on a bicycle.
I don't figure on carrying it with the straps full (25 rounds) except to the range.

Only need the one in the chamber.

Actually I carry one in each front pocket to to keep the cases from clinking together
when walking and five more on my sling.

Unsure of the link but "leather gun sling" is how I found it. He had it for a starting bid of $50.00 and buy it now for $60.00, both with free shipping. The auction was ending tomorrow night and I was waiting but just saw that someone did a buy it now. The seller is bulmast1.

With the shotgun/larger rifle loads I like the buttstock elastic style. For pistol rounds I like a belt pouch style. I usually hold 1 extra round in my off hand to load after shooting anyway.

This is like my pistol pouch. I can carry about (

.45 Colt rounds in it, but the one I have is leather.

If I'm gonna be out for more than a few hours I carry an ammo wallet. If I'm just out for the morning or afternoon, one in the gun and two in a pocket.

I exchanged emails with this guy about making a combination belt which can hold 20 rifle rounds and 6 revolver rounds and allow usa of a Hunter holster. He seems like a really nice guy.
* I like the belt method as I don't have to screw around putting things on and off my pants belt; Often I don't wear a belt. This can just hang in the gun cabinet and can be put on over my winter coat so shells and knife or multi-tool is out in the open and handy.

I have hunted with single-shots for years and I always wear a slip-on ammo holder on the inside of my left forearm so the loads are right there when I open the gun with my right hand and throw the empty shell out . Fastest reload there is if needed, most often not the case though.

I carry 1 to 4 in my gun, depending on what I'm carrying. Then I have 6 more in a holder in my "possibles bag" that I always carry when hunting or scouting.

any one besides me use a bicycle inner tube

over the fore-end with a few rounds slipped under it

one handi has 4 38s on the barrel just ahead of the fore-end with a tight /small innertube
....i forget they are there some times

Great setups, and very nice leather.
I have stayed away from leather just because of the weather extremes we have here.
Just hovering around 95 deg where I hunt now, and very dry.
But the wet is about to start and it will get quite a bit hotter with high levels of humidity. I have always worried about buying nice leather work only to see it ruined cause I forgot to oil it clean it dry it or something.
I've seen some very nice pieces ruined by mold in the stitching here.

Wileynet, those are GREAT!!!

*Snowseal is a boot wax product that works really well in sealing up leather for the rain, snow, and hot sun. I like mink oil, but Snowseal is more extreme.

After dying i treat all my leather with neatsfoot oil smells at first but tends to keep it soft, not much humidity here in NM but we get a lot of dry rot,

Never owned a handi but have other SS guns , used a two round holder that went on my left wrist , I'm a right haned shooter . Worked great.

I haven't used it yet cuz I keep forgettin to shoot a rifle with it installed to see how it affects impact and accuracy.

But the TC forend cartridge carrier sure seems like a good idea, I've had it for a couple years and it fits just fine, is available it three sizes. It's a soft rubber and makes no noise like the fabric type, and holds the ammo very securely. They make one for the buttstock too.

This was a good thread. I took the Allen cheapo elastic holder and cut it in half, singed it, and added a few stitches to hold it together. Holds four on the stock. Took the other half and cut it down for two cartridges. Singed it and a couple stitches and I have a wrist holder!

Hello from Georgia,

I have included a few pic of the shell holder I am using on my 45/70. It is a totally custom made piece that my uncle has perfected for our rifles. The leather is actually remnants from Piper aircraf seat material and works very well. It is made and sewn on by hand, and holds 9 rounds although I usually only carry 4 or 5 in the holder. I will be having one made for my 12 ga as well as a few more rifles of various calibers. I can say with 100% certainty that this design is very efficient and have even included a pic of the shell holder right after it got its first blood on it. Hope everyone likes it. Have a great day.
