yes some are.  at least the platform and the majority of republicans are pro life.
the democrat and libertarian platforms, on the other hand, say that the murder of unborn babies and the marriage of same sex gays is OKAY.

since I'm an old man who is Bible believing and God loving with ETERNITY staring me in the face, I'll take the high road and condemn abortion and gay rights, while praying that you and others come to your senses before it's too late.

Just like lots of libertarians are pro-life, myself included so there's no need to pray that I come to my senses. Just like lots of Republicans voted for Romney, a man who supported abortion and gay rights his entire career (until conveniently it was time to run for president as a "conservative"). Log Cabin Republicans support gay rights. I could care less what the party platform is, I vote for the individual.

There are plenty of Republican politicians who support abortion and gay rights. Would God approve of you voting for one of them simply because the Republican party platform is against abortion and gay rights?

A conservative cannot win.  There aren't very many conservative voters.

I saw Mitt as a hope to slow down the desent into pure socialism.  And until we get the idea that we have to stop the Democrats the same way they will do anything, lie, cheat, steal to stop a conservitive then all hope is lost.  And you that want a conservitive in office again, you want a Ronald Regan, a JFK, a statesman will never get one as long as you fail to vote to stop the socialist slide we are on that only tells the Republicans to be more like the Democrats to get elected.

What you are suggesting is nothing new MWD! I've been around this planet for  almost 70 years, and every election for president I can remember, my fellow Republicans have said the same thing.Just one more time! It's actually (Every time) It doesn't work! I voted for one of sorriest excuses for president ever elected GWB. I got endless war's and the Department of Homeland Security for my help in putting him in office. It was the last straw for me, and a wake up call for good. You have to come to the realization it's not going to happen and vote for for a real patriotic American like a Ron Paul, or not vote at all if the only choice is the two hand picked criminals.

I think some will come to this realization as they grow older, and some never will. I'm not directing this response at you, but at anyone who believes the only choice we have is the two standing for the establishment. Most on the forum wouldn't agree, but I feel good about not voting for either, and placing my vote for someone I actually believed in. Not someone just a little better than the other. I don't feel like my vote........NO! I know my vote was not wasted!
Say what ytou want to about GWB but what would have happened if he had a President Gore when Osama sent his people to fly planes into the towers.
We have a problem in our country now.
In WWII we had a nation that got behind the winning ofthe war.  In Viet Nam the communists learned to demonstrate in the US and recruit kids and get them to do what was popular and General Giap was just weeks away from surender but the demonstrations made him hold out and turn the war int oa war of attrition just wasting lives of his communists till the US gave in.
Our enemies have seen this and have learned that we will give in.  Especally if a Republican is in office.  Remember Hillary and her statement that Protest is the highest form of patriotism?
In WWii we had defeatists, we had surender monkies, we had isolationists.  The media ignored them unlike today.
We also did what was needed to win.
I wish GWB had issued the orders to fill hollow points of the ammo with bacon grease and let the jehiadists know that if we hit them we will be sending them to hell, taking away their end game.  Instead we have Democrats that want to negotiate with them.  Their demands are simple, kill all the Jews, convert to islam, accept sharia law, or die.  How do you negotiate with those demands?
Can you hear Gore with that, well let's meet half way, 1/4 convert to islam, 1/4 dead and we accept some of sharia laws?
As far as Iraq, I was listening to both GWB and to Bill Clinton that said he had weapons was trying to build more and his secret police head was meeting with Al Queda.  And yes he did not have actual WMD, but that is like saying I don't have shotgun shells when I have hulls, primers, wads, powder and a press, I have just not made ammo yet.

I'm an independent. Democrats may be the problem, but Republicans are not the solution. The same corporations that donate to Super PAC's  - advertise on the major media outlets.

Romney was governor of Taxachussets. He wrote the game plan for single payer. He's barely a republican. Ryan was a huge mistake - plays to the base and couldn't even deliver WI. Run Romney with Rubio, carry FL and pick up a few million latino votes. Then tap Ryan for Sec Treasury.

The convention was awful - 147 year old Eastwood is your best bet?

The republicans will continue to lose as long as they determine their candidates based on "who's turn" it is to run - Dole, McCain, etc. They run Jeb and Condaleeza they won't even beat Hillary in 16.

Letter to a future Republican strategist regarding white people

To whom it may concern regarding the United States federal elections of 2014, 2016 and beyond:
Allow me to introduce myself to you, the existing (or aspiring!) strategist for the Republican Party. My name is Eric Arnold Garland and I am a White Man. Boy, am I ever – you need sunglasses just to look at my photo!
If I read the news correctly, I fit a profile that is of extreme importance to the GOP, as I embody the archetype that fits your narrative of Real Americans. Just how much should my profile interest you? Are you sitting down?
  • My family lineage goes back to the MAYFLOWER, BOAT ONE!!! (Garland family of New England-> John Adams -> Howard Alden -> Plymouth colony ->KINGS OF MUTHAF***IN’ ENGLAND)
  • I am a heterosexual, married to the super Caucasian mother of my two beautiful children who are, inexplicably, EVEN WHITER THAN I AM.
  • I am college educated (Master’s degree!) and affluent.
  • I am a job creator and small businessman.
  • We pay a lot of taxes! Every year!
  • I grew up in a rural area and despise laziness!
  • Having started my own business, I have complained at length about the insanity of federal, state and local bureaucracy – and its deleterious impact on the innovative small businessman.
  • I currently live in the suburbs in a historically Red state.
HOLY WHITE PEOPLE, BATMAN!!! Wow, you’re thinking – this is not some Mexirican in the Sun Belt we need to attract via harsh anti-Castro policies or appeals to “valores de familia” - this is the BREAD AND BUTTER OF THE GRAND OLD PARTY, a Mayflower-descended small business owner, burdened by taxation, looking out for his beautiful White family in the suburbs of a city (St Louis) surrounded by racial tension and urban blight!
How can I put this gently? My wife and I are not sensitive to your messaging, nor did we vote for the candidates you proposed for us this past Tuesday.
B-b-but, what? Aren’t we investors, hard-workin’ white folk surrounded by same in a manicured cul-de-sac, scared by a vision of economic collapse amidst the takers in a land of fewer givers? Didn’t Mitt Romney’s strong family, wealth, leadership history and chiseled chin give us the uncontrollable urge to high-five him into the White House?
No.
May I explain why not, purely for your education, such that you might be interested in winning an election on the national level at some point in the future? It bears pointing out that I should be your Low Hanging Fruit, the easy vote to get as opposed to, say, African-Americans, Latinos, or Asians – and you’re not even speaking well to me. The reasons why ought to concern you deeply.
As a Card-Carrying White Male I love expressing my opinion irrespective of whether people care to hear it, so let’s get started.
>>>>>>
Science - One of the reasons my family is affluent is that my wife and I have a collective fifteen years of university education between us. I have a Masters degree in Science and Technology Policy, and my wife is a physician who holds degrees in medicine as well as cell and molecular biology. We are really quite unimpressed with Congressional representatives such as Todd Akin and Paul Broun who actually serve on the House science committee and who believe, respectively, that rape does not cause pregnancy and that evolution and astrophysics are lies straight from Satan’s butt cheeks. These are, sadly, only two of innumerable assaults that the Republican Party has made against hard science – with nothing to say of logic in general. Please understand the unbearable tension this might create between us and your candidates.
Climate - Within just the past 18 months the following events have come to our attention: a record-breaking drought that sent temperatures over 100 degrees for weeks, killing half the corn in the Midwest and half the TREES on our suburban property – AND – a hurricane that drowned not New Orleans or Tampa or North Carolina but my native state of VERMONT. As an encore, a second hurricane drowned lower Manhattan, New Jersey and Long Island. The shouted views of decrepit mental fossil Senator James Inhofe of Oklahoma that this is a fraud perpetrated on the American people by evil, conspiring climate scientists is belied by such events and is looking irresponsible to even the most skeptical.
Healthcare - My wife and I are quite familiar with America’s healthcare system due to our professions, and having lived abroad extensively, also very aware of comparable systems. Your party’s insistence on declaring the private U.S. healthcare system “the best in the world” fails nearly every factual measure available to any curious mind. We watch our country piss away 60% more expenditures than the next most expensive system (Switzerland) for health outcomes that rival former Soviet bloc nations. On a personal scale, my wife watches poor WORKING people show up in emergency rooms with fourth-stage cancer because they were unable to afford primary care visits. I have watched countless small businesses unable to attract talented workers because of the outrageous and climbing cost of private insurance. And I watch European and Asian businesses outpace American companies because they can attract that talent without asking people to risk bankruptcy and death. That you think this state of affairs is somehow preferable to “Obamacare,” which you compared ludicrously to Trotskyite Russian communism, is a sign of deficient minds unfit to guide health policy in America.
War - Nations do have to go to war sometimes, but that Iraq thing was pretty bad, to put it mildly. Somebody should have been, I dunno – FIRED for bad performance. Aren’t you the party of good corporate managers or something? This topic could get 10,000 words on its own. Let’s just leave it at: You guys suck at running wars.
Deficits and debt - Whenever the GOP is out of power, it immediately appeals to the imagination of voters who remember the Lyndon Baines Johnson (!) administration and claim that the Republican alternative is the party of “cutting spending” and “reducing the deficit.” The only problem with your claim is that Republican governments throughout my entire 38 year life (Reagan, Bush 41, Bush 43) have failed to cut spending and deficit and debt EVEN ONCE. I hope you understand that your credibility suffers every time you promise one thing for three decades and do the EXACT OPPOSITE. Egads – if you actually were the party of fiscal responsibility – you might win our votes despite your 13th century view of science!
Gay marriage - As the child of Baby Boomers who got divorced (as was the fashion!) in the 80s and 90s, and for whom 50% of my friends had their homes broken by divorce in the critical years before age 18, I sure am unsympathetic to your caterwauling BS that “gays will destroy the sanctity of marriage.” Perhaps if everyone in your generation didn’t take the period of 1978 – 1995 to start surreptitiously banging their neighbors and coworkers, only to abandon their kids because “they just weren’t happy,” I would take your defense of marriage more seriously. The institution of Middle Class suburban marriage was broken by the generation of aging white Baby Boomers who populate what is left of the Republican Party, so your defense is wrongheaded and disingenuous. And moreover, as someone who got called “faggot” about 127 times a day from the years 1985 through 1991 – guess what – I grew up to be pretty good friends with actual homosexuals, whose sexual orientation is usually the least significant thing about them. The Republican perseveration on homosexuals as any sort of threat consigns them to history’s trough of intellectual pig dung.
>>>>>>
That’s quite enough for one essay, wouldn’t you say? Now, given my initial description as a wealthy, hard-working, job creating, heterosexual, married suburban White Male – doesn’t your current platform look woefully insufficient to the task of gaining my vote? This doesn’t even get into the demographic tensions that show that people of my exact profile are going away permanently in America. You can’t even win on what you perceive to be “home field advantage.”
Uh oh, wait, I can already hear you through the web browser, dismissing all of my above points because THAT GUY WAS NEVER GONNA BE A REPUBLICAN ANYHOW, CUZ HE’S A LIBRUL WHO HATES AMERICA AND…
All right, let’s do one last point:
Meanness- Your party is really mean, mocking and demonizing everyone who does not follow you into the pits of hell. You constantly imply – as Mitt Romney did in his “47% speech” – that anybody who disagrees with you does so not by logic or moral conviction, but because they are shiftless, lazy parasites who want “free stuff” from “traditional Americans.” Wow, you guys managed to follow up a stunning electoral defeat with insulting the very people you wish to attract for a majority in the political system! Brilliant! You are losing elections because being angry and defensive and just-plain-mean is more important than being smart and winning elections – and thus you deserve everything happening to you.
If you want to know exactly where you failed in 2012, and will continue to fail, here it is. Look you assholes, I’m as traditional an American as it gets, and I do not “want free stuff.”  I am a taxpayer, and ALWAYS HAVE BEEN. I got my first job – dragging bags of cow manure, horse feed and fertilizer around a farm store – when I was 12. I started my first company when I was 28. I have followed the vast majority of the rules set out for middle class white males (for good and for ill.) And if it weren’t bad enough that your policy positions are a complete clusterfuck for the reasons I lay out in great detail, you manage to follow up the whole exercise with insulting me, my wife, and my friends of every stripe who didn’t vote for your political party – all of whom are hard-working, taxpaying, job creating, law abiding, great AMERICANS of EVERY COLOR AND CREED.
From this white, Mayflower-descended strategic analyst, allow me to offer you the three strategic options you have before you:
1. You drastically moderate your platform to harmonize with the policy positions I present above
2. You disband the party and reorganize it to reflect current realities
3. You kick and scream and stamp your feet and call me and my friends names – and submit to several decades of one party rule
While I do not want a one-party system, I also don’t particularly care which of these options you choose. If you look carefully at the numbers on Tuesday, nobody else cares, either.
Just a word to the wise from one White Man to (presumably) another

The fact Eastwood was criticized by Democrats and Rinos, and still is, shows he was very effective, sadly Romney had Rinos running his campaign and paid for it.

Republicans in general and conservatives in particular have lost all control over the culture of the country.

The right wing will never prevail in a two party system where their opposition has become well-entrenched by giving away stuff.  These days, they call it "building a coalition of voters" but what it amounts to is uniting groups of people, all of whom have a common characteristic.  That is, they are getting free stuff from the left wing.

One of the game changers now is the Hispanic vote.  Immigration is the gateway to free stuff.  The right wing will have a very tough row to hoe to overcome that one.

So to prevail, the right wing has to come up with something to beat free stuff, and to those already receiving free stuff, free enterprise is a non-starter as an option.  And, the left wing has a very strong head start on giving things away.

One foreseable result is for the Republicans to try to be more like their opposition.  That is, to become more like Democrats.  Way back during the days of the Soviet Union, they could never see much difference between the two then.  In fact, the Republicans have become less and less conservative already in the past two decades or longer.  Example:  Have the Republicans shown any more fiscal restraint than the Dems?  They have not.

So, if you see a continuing losing scenario on the national front, about all you can do is hunker down and try to built a local alternative that strives to be conservative in nature.   Local representation is one reason the Republicans still hold the House - for now.  Those elected officials are there in office as a result of a local vote from their constituency.

Ronald Regan educated the voters as to what and how he wanted to do.
Since then I have seen speaches by other Conservitives and other repuiblicans that over estamate  the education levels of the people.
What he says makes perfect sense to me and I understand what point he was making, the problem was when talking to others they did not understand the basics of economic laws and extending thoughts out.
That is why you hear me saying the same economic laws and formulas on this site over and over no matter how many times the Dullards and the liberals (was I just redundant?) tell you that higher taxes on the wealthy are going to help the economy and that higher taxes are going to put people to work when everything tells you the opposite.
and again it sounds good but clearly it will not work.  Much like the chemical compisition of water is two hydrogen and one oxygen making water 1/3 pure Oxygen (actually more by molecular weight)  and it would make a valid argument that water has more oxygen that the air we breath and there for it would be healthier to breath water than breath air and like many Liberal ideas it will only hurt people.
We need to go back to educating people and showint them that liberals are incorrect and are lying even though it sounds like it should work.

two-blocked - very solid post, I think that hits on what a lot of people are thinking. I think the republicans lost their way years ago. They sold the conservative party to evangelicals so they could carry the south. All of the personal liberty went out of the party in favor of the moral majority.

Pandering to blacks and latinos is not the answer. Make a significant swing towards libertarianism and focus on the constitution. Make government smaller and simpler.

Make government smaller and simpler.

Therein lays the real problem. The republicans having been promising me that for my entire life....AND NOT ONCE HAVE THEY DELIVERED ON THAT PROMISE!

The size and scope of the fed has increased during every single republican administration in my lifetime!!!!!!!!!

IF, if Pres. Obama gets to nominate (and here the Rep. will not stick their heads in the sand they will probably stick their heads up their rectums.) another Supreme Court judge, or worse two. Those who voted in a manner that did not affect the election, or did not vote, may, but probably not, see how severely they crap on themselves.

Actually, I'd like to hear your answer on the Hillary question.
before I found the Lord, I couldn't care less if someone killed their baby.  I was a heavy drinker, had tried MJ, didn't like it, messed me up more than alcohol.  I was sinning in many ways.
but the Lord changed me.
so to answer your question, if hillary saw that her direction was wrong, and gave God the credit for her change of mind, yes I would vote for if she ran as a conserative.

I agree with you in principle only I would have wanted to at least see some proof, a track record of conservative votes before voting for someone with a past like hers. It was the same thing for me and Romney, I needed proof rather that just words to vote for him but there wasn't any.

“It is no secret we had a number of Republicans damage our brand this year with offensive, bizarre comments -- enough of that. It’s not going to be the last time anyone says something stupid within our party, but it can’t be tolerated within our party. We’ve also had enough of this dumbed-down conservatism. We need to stop being simplistic, we need to trust the intelligence of the American people and we need to stop insulting the intelligence of the voters.”

The reason the Republicans did not win was not because the voters liked Obama better than Romney. Obama is one of the most controversial  and personally loathed Presidents in many years. He was ripe for the taking. The Republicans lost because millions found the policies and behavior of Republican candidates even more distasteful. They snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

The Republican Party is too small to win without Independents and cross overs so what did the Republican Party do? It alienated about everyone it could. Blacks. Latinos. Asians.Immigrants.Women. The poor. The seniors. Now some may think that these people don't matter, even that they should not be allowed to vote but they can and they do. Politics is the art of the possible. Those who take a my way or the highway position are going to find victory less and less possible.
If people want to bluster and have temper tantrums then they better get used to losing. I live in Missouri. Akins stunk up this state so bad that even I could not vote for him despite the fact that I have opposed McCaskill every election she has run in until 2012. Republicans must also recognize that matters of pesonal conscience should be  left to personal conscience. They are not the only ones who have a moral conscience. The way to achieve their goals is to persuade others that their views are the correct ones, not to cram them down our throats. Republicanism has become the philosophy of negativity and bigotry.

Study after study has shown how dangerous distracted driving is yet people continue to talk on their cell phones while driving. Driving in the U.S. requires your full attention. Many states and countries have made it illegal to use a cell phone while operating a motor vehicle and the federal government should follow their lead. Banning the use of cell phones while driving would have the added benefit of making the no-texting law enforceable.

Duck we lost about 3,000 folks in the towers on 911. How many in Iraq? That country had done NOTHING to us. NOTHING!. We're still bogged down in Afghanistan, and STILL losin troops there. How long, and how many soldiers dead before we're EVEN for 911. Bush STARTED the bailouts on the auto industry and went AGAINST CONGRESS to do it!
GW was governor here in Texas, and I supported him. I voted for him on both presidential elections, but he started givin signals to whom he really was his last term. When he got re-elected he said he had political capital now, and was goin to spend it. BOY DID HE! BUSH WAS A GLOBALIST!
Now! Would we have been better off with Gore? Hell no, that's my whole point.

BUT THEN AGAIN! Would we have been better off with McCain than Obama. HELL NO! If McCain had been elected we'd still be in Iraq & Afganistan, and he has been railing, and goadin Obama, to go into Syria and Libyia with troops. He would have started TWO MORE WARS. Face it Duck. Your a great guy but this "lessor of" ain't workin, and it's gettin worse. You need to take a look at the history of the "lessor of theory". You accept "lessor" you get "lessor".

As far as the bacon grease. Why not capet bomb the middle east with "hog crap". Works for me.
You may all go to hell, I will go to Texas. Davy Crockett

I can't find any argument in Dee's post to start this thread, so I really have nothing to offer there. He's right on.
I will add that I do not think there will be a republican party after a few more years, it's pretty much washed up, and I do not think it's anyone's fault except the republican party itself.

And guys here is our problem.
For some reason Hairy Chest has sided with the Democcrats
Could be that his father was one,
Could be that he is a Union member and believes the Democrats are for the "little people"
Could be he has any one of the thousands of things that the Democrats say they stand for and many groups in the Democrat party are in direct conflict with the other groups.
But he has sided with the Democrats for some reason and as long as the Republican (who actuall may have more in common with him) loose he is happy.

As far as the bacon grease. Why not capet bomb the middle east with "hog crap". Works for me.
Well carpet bombing is not the answer. They are not in the stone age yet and carpet bombing them into the stone age would only help them.  The problem is that we have a media that will do what it can to throw that same pig crap on one party over another and really does not see Al Queda, the Communists, or any other groups that want ot bring down America as their enemy they see US you and me and the rest of the conservitives and Republicans as their enemy.  They think that they can negotiate with our enemies and the only reason they hate us is that the conservitives are here.
Like many I voted for McCain hoping for a massive heart attack that would not allow him to carry out as President but make a full recovery and we would have had Sara as President.  Looking at the writings of Obama and the question that was glossed over of if he is actually a citizen of the US is still in question to me.
Part of the reason we are still in Afganistan and still in Iraq (although combat troops have left fighting still takes place) is because we have a Media that likes the war.  We have a peace movement that wants hard dead lines. We have no stratigy to Win the wars.
And with Iraq, we had both Bush and Clinton saying that they have WMDs and that we have the leaders of one of Sadams ministries meeting with Al Queda.  We also have a huge history of showing that Sadam lied to us about this or that when it came to the WMD's
On the heels of an attack like capturing planes and flying them as bombs how can you take intell that they want to get hold of gasous WMD's not serious?  How can you not take the treat of having the componets and facilities to make WMD's and selling them to Al Queda not serious?
Plots were foiled to smuggle in Semtex and blow it up at in LA Semtex a military grade explosive.  Had to be purchased from some where, and through who?  There are Millions and Millions of unaccounted for weapons still missing in Iraq.
And I hate to say it this way but it is easier to fight the Terrorists who want to become marters there in Afganistan and Iraq with our soldiers than here with our civilians and police.  And for the 10,000 Americans that have died in the war on terror what is the cost that have been saved in not having those same people attacking us here?  Smuggled in and spraying bullets in a mall on Black Friday, having them set off Bombs like in Isreal in crowded shops and restaraunts.  Having them kill police to create unrest.  If we had not gone to Iraq and freed millions from an evil dictator what would have been the cost?
How do you leave a place that has no structure?  We saw the havoc that was caused in the colonies when England left Africa, India, and the middle east in the 50's and the millions and millions that were killed in the Chaos after.  Imagine an Iraq or Afganistan in the hands of another Iatolla or that Iran takes over all three countries and makes a huge militant muslium nation?  Sound like the beginning of a Tom Clancy book and the terrorist actions they could do to with a popultation willing to kill many to go to heaven?

I have a friend who believes in all kinds of conspiracies. He said the Republicans threw the last 2 elections because they didn't want to inherit the mess this country is in. Considering the losers the Republicans have chosen lately, he may be correct.
