The big freeze has arrived....
« on: November 12, 2012, 09:47:19 AM »
About 4 inches of snow with a 35 mph N.W. wind and 10 degree weather has frozen over all but the biggests waters here.High temps have been 15 degrees. On a brighter side the waterfowling is world class. My nephew has been whacking Specklebellies,Greater Canadas,Snows and Blue geese in the picked cornfields they have been feeding in.It looks like they're feeding up for a big push South.Mallards been coming into to his goose setup also.
He's east of me about 80 miles and the drought has halted his water trapping except for 2 bigger slough/lakes.His raccoons have disappeared with the water.Bill

Snowed here a bit this morning, mid teens tonight. But ,after a couple days of cold, its supposed to warm back up.
I hope things open back up and I can find some waters to trap, fairly near by(within 25 miles).

Was on the river most the day trying to find a place to put a muskrat trap. There are no rats???Weather was nasty with high wind and snow on and off. But man were the ducks piling in all day. It had to have froze out somewhere north of us. So my guess is with no place to move what traps we have out. We will pick up Wednesday, duck hunt Thursday, Friday, then head north for deer hunting Saturday.
Got to keep moving or we'll freeze in place LOL although their saying 50s by next Saturday. Deer hunt in T-shirts.

It was rude awaking to wake up to snow/ice and cold wind. Today I Pulled My traps today on the  golf course. Didn't use the golf cart today, Used my truck on paths, it was nice to have heat. I have seen next to nothing for  sign for muskrats or mink.

Today the sun is shining the snow is melting,it is gorgeous outside. The wind has stopped blowing. My little dog Tuffy had to lean into the wind for the last couple of days so as not to get blown over.
Tom did you ever get my P.M. Bill

Even the big water is frozen over now. There are small spots of open water way out in the middle of a couple of deeper big sloughs/small lakes. They are black with mallards and Canada geese still hanging around.I sat in the truck on a hill above one of them yesterday afternoon and watched the birds pour into picked cornfields.Bill

Its starting to thaw out again here in north central Wi.  Set more colony traps out and coon dps.    Really bringing in the rats,  in ponds where  we had  body grips set in runs and hardly nothing.  This year without rat sign we are  really bringing them in,  one colony  trap  (30inch)  had 8 rats and two others  five and another 6.  Lots of skinning and not complaining... coon are coming in also almost all  xl and larger.
