Mauser front site "higher blades"
« on: February 11, 2004, 07:20:46 AM »
I was reading back issues of SHOTGUN NEWS and came across an article I missed about sighting in your mauser.  It mentioned that brownells has the higher front site blades for 98 mausers.   I think these are extra high then we file them to sight them in if I read it correctly.      BigBill

Mauser Front Sights

Hay BigBill - Samco has them too but they are found in the add for the Swedish Mausers.  They are so inexpensive you can get a couple of different height sights for next to nothing.  They even come in lower sight heights.  The range in height from -.5 to +3 in .5 increments.  I got the set, and also got the ones from Brownells and the later are the same as Samco's +2.5, which need to be worked dowon to bring most rifles to bear at 100 yds.  HTH.  Mikey.

Mikey when I first got a swede and wanted to sight it in at 100yds Samco recomended the 3.50+ blade and it turned out to be too high on the M96. we must keep in mind all rifle barrels shoot different my two M96's have two different height site blades orginally.  I ended up with it somewhere being between 2.00+ or 2.50+ to make it zero @ 100yds.  I also ended up with a few different ones too by the time I realized what I really needed I have a "collection" of swede front site blades too. You never know I may sight in my other swede's someday too.      BigBill
