And 19 other states are working on it! If you think about it why should we let the Federal government run us into the ground when we have a choice.

i think this move is just to let the administrtation know that there is a LOT of dissatisfaction in the way things are headed, more thn anything else.
i sincerely doubt that the US gov't would tolerate disolving the union
i think that the number of OVERALL voters this last election show that there is some reason most ELIGIBLE voters didn't show up to vote. IMO, it's an OVERALL lack of confidence by the majority of the ELIGIBLE voters...
i don't know if secession would solve anything...i do know that many, if not most, feel government, at ALL levels, is too invasive at all levels, but there really not much that can be done about it now...it's out of control...government should NOT be controlling health care, birth control, abortion, religious affiliation, etc...they're supposed to be LIMITED by the constitution as to what they can do...
now...if there was enough support to totally isolate Washington DC via secession, that would probably work.
we'll see...depending on the numbers...how it goes. it will be very interesting to watch this as it develops...or dies.

This is going to end with a whimper, not a bang. No one is going anywhere. The key bit of information is that Atlas WILL NOT shrug. If the "owners" , possessing of trillions worth of assets, simply shut all the doors, and left on extended vacations, or forever for that matter, there might be some suprise and movement. IT WILL NOT HAPPEN, because they can't, unlike Rearden, they can never be more satisfied with what they already have, let alone with less, simply to prove a point. Since they will never carry through, this just makes them look juvenile, petty, and stupid. They should have sucked it up and shut up. This is primarily a gun site..... one of the cardinal rules is NEVER pull out a gun unless you are willing to use it. In fact, if you are not willing to use it, you are far better off with a golf club,or a club sandwich, or just groveling for God's sake. Succession is a final act, no one in their right mind believes this. Pick something you will actually DO, and then carry through with it. This just further shreds what little credibility the right has, it is simply petulance.

I admire the folks in Texas..but beyond all the blather about will they..won't they..it has to tell us something.
This is only the second time in our history when as many states are threatening to quit the union.  There can be no better evidence that something is dredfully wrong in the way things are being done in Washington.  When an administration has as many as 9 styates even suggesting an interest in withdrawing from the union...they cannot all be wrong..
But will the socialist/Marxists take anything away from this threatened dissolution...I doubt it!  ..they are very pig-headed..

The federal government is like a huge slug.  fat, slow to act and slimy.

I wouldn't want to see 20 or 30 new countries, but one new country with a conservative government.

I admit there are a heck of a lot of problems that would have to be solved but any state has the right to seccede peacibly or otherwise. For instance if Obama gets his UN treaty in place, this is an iron clad reason to seccede as it is unconstitutional and wrong. At last count there are more than 40,000 signatures on the petition, just how many do there have to be before the Texas government if forced to act? As I said before what legal basis could the Obama administration use to legitimize using force against a state that seccedes? Who would these forces comprise of? I for one can see things getting in a furor over this statewide. We would have to elect a president , levy taxes, raise a militia, kick the Federal ABC groups out of the state, make the military bases feel at home and at least temporarily go back to constitutional law (not use precedent law).

Huh, back then they didn't have oil and gas. Texas is rolling in the stuff and so is Akaska .

We will happily escort those living off handouts either south or north. Obam will see they are well cared for just like he has the northeast in the wake of Sandy. So the Feds will tell us to get to the house or else? We are in our state which has it's own constitution, the Feds have no right to tell us where to go. Maybe the function of your state comes from the Feds but if we stop sending our tax monies to them to waste things will immediatly get better. Besides the Feds are broke, wasn't it nice that all those inner city folks paid all those taxes!

All it took was one state to go for it before, and this time it will be the states with the richest natural resources. Newest manufacturing abilities already in place, deep water ports open year around.
And the Rocky Mountians as a great natural barrier from any aggression coming from the west coast.
So much for the states that were once called the fly over states, only a fool would attempt that then.
NM and Colorado wouldn't stand alone in that mix for very long before they would become occupied.
NM especially in the southern part of the state would just roll over to Texas overnight.
And it wouldn't surprise me if Southern California did the same thing, right along with Nevada.

You guys in California would have your hands to full dealing with China to worry much about anything else. Alaska would have Russia all over them, and Mexico wouldn't be to much trouble with white sands and Holloman sitting right there on thier doorstep. Their is way to much European foreign investment in some of these border states for them to sit by and allow that to be damaged in any way.
Mostly from the Germans and the Dutch, and these are some very capitalistic company's that are not to fond of Washington right now. Oil and gas, Nuclear enrichment, R&D , Isotope production that the
nuke reactors in Europe are heavily dependent on, Sandia and Los Alamos labs, the space port, and the list gets bigger everyday. So the fight would be on around here worse than any other place for sure.

You could bet that Europe would not look kindly on any of these facility's being jeopardised in any way.
If you take that into account it is not unthinkable that any looming Civil War in this country would
involve global repercussions. And if it doesn't happen it will not be because of the funny money coming from Washington,it will be because if this. Some international negotiations or a cease fire would be what would cause this to not ever happen. The only question then becomes whose side would the
world be on? Follow the money trail, and dont go so fast it may not be Washington.

..And they just might get them!  Actually 25 million is the total population of Texas but they would need far less..the move toward secession doesn't require 100% participation, but only a majority of the voters.  There are about 12.7 million registered voters in Texas... so a flat 7 million would be plenty...

C'mon, Obama, start your plea now.. let's hear it!     ......."me no Alamo, me no Goliad"

I wonder... if in his next "state of the union" address, he will be honest enough to admit he has the union on the verge of collapse, and that many of the states are tempted to LEAVE the union?

Leave it to Texas!!!!

Texas has lots of Mexicans, but if it seceded, it could enact its own welfare rules and immigration policy.   Cut off the goodies, the public school, food stamps, free health care and the third world takers will go back where they came from.  They will self deport.  You wouldn't even have to lynch them :)

Seriously. In 1994,  sixty per cent of the voters in the relatively liberal state of California voted in Proposition 187 which cut off tax payer funded benefits to the parasites.  It was stopped by a Federal Court.  Eliminate the Federal Court and the Federals Government's "Civil Rights" enforcers and the white  population  can take it from there.

Get rid of the Muds and Americans will have jobs again.  I heard on the radio today that there are going to be 6 million lay offs in the next 12 months as Obamacare is implemented.  SIX MILLION UNEMPLOYED IN ADDITION TO  THE 20 MILLION ALREADY OUT OF WORK????    This is a huge Army of pissed off, hungry people that are in no mood to be  lectured about the "rights" of third world parasites who are bleeding us dry!

I'm not so sure.   In Greece the common people are starting to lynch "immigrants" who come there to live off the fat of the land.  Greece has huge unemployment problems.  When Americans start having to eat out of garbage cans you're going to see lynching.    Other states may not be much better.

But...there's something else I hadn't thought of.  That's "nullification", which means a state just declares federal law "null" and ignores it.  Imagine if states starting declaring Obamacare "null" and didn't comply?  This is not impossible.  Obama is wrecking this country.

When in the history of this country, since the civil war, have people openly talked about secession?    I don't believe it even happened during the "civil rights movement" when the US Gov't shoved integration down our throats at bayonet point.

It may not be full blown secession, but something's got to give.  It just does.  People have had it with these Mexicans crapping all over us.   They get food stamps and free health care and we eat out of dumpsters?    That's not going to last very long.  People with guns will not submit for very long to that.

Oh we are on the same side of this, I just think they would make their way to some place that openly stated having amnesty or safe haven for them.  Think kaliforni for instance.  Yes a good dose of civil up rising would scatter them like cockroaches. A few good lynchings would also do wonders for others who have made a career of sponging off the government.
