Picked up a Browning 78 25-06 (26 inch round barrel) last month. Mounted a 10x Redfield for testing. Have tried Win 120 gr and Federal 117 gr Premium loads. Producing 1 1/2 to 2  inch three shot groups at 100 yards. Is this pretty much what one should expect from these rifles?

Many shooters have reported accuracy similar towhat you described using factory ammo.  Handloaded ammo should do much better, and the forearm hanger pressure probably needs to be looked at.

Try 100 grain loads. I think the length of the heavy bullets is a bit much for the standard 10 inch twist. I have never heard anyone brag about accuracy with 117 or 120 grain 25 caliber bullets.
For an accuracy test try the 100 grain Sierra if you can find it in a factory load. If not consult your manual for the appropriate charge of IMR 4350.

I concur with EDG...try 100gr Sierra with either IMR4350 or H4831...you might be surprised and get subpar as I do with my rifle...BTW, shoot 5 shot groups, not 3...that will tell you more about your loads than 3...good luck

I don't have a B78, but my 1885 in 7mm Rem Mag. has turned in groups as small as .6"@100 yds., shooting the Nosler 140 BTip over 65g. RL22. Singleshots can be very accurate.

A couple of my cousins each have a Browning A-Bolt chambered in .25-06 and both rifles love the Nosler 100g. Btip. You might give this bullet a try!
