Thompson Icon
« on: November 13, 2012, 10:09:12 AM »
Just wanted to give a short report about a new rifle I got yesterday.  It is the Thompson Icon in .243 Win.  Seems to be very well-made and came with a .95"  test target.  Two of the shots were basically hole for hole and the third "flyer" made it .95".  Something interesting, though, is the rifle was test fired way back on 12-13-2007! I dont mind though as you can see it has a beautiful wood stock and perfect metal.  After shooting it the only thing I can find to my disliking is the safety.  It is harder than normal to manipulate and seems to be noisier than any other safety I have had on a gun, although it did loosen up a bit after using it some.  The trigger seems to be around 3lbs although it has a fair amount of creep. Pretty decent and adjustable so I may be able to make it better.  Overall I am very happy with it.  An American made gun for just under $500.00.

I have an Icon Weathershield in 308 Winchester that is a pleasure to shoot.  My test target was .32" if I remember correctly.  My rifle really likes 168 grain Barnes TTSX's.

FreeCD I have the same rifle you have, I took it in on pawn and the fellow never came back to redeam it so I liked it so well I brought it home, I changed the scope to a denver redfield 3X9 scope sighted it in and havent used it to hunt with yet, but dont know if I will as there are just too many guns in the safes and not enough days in a hunting season, I dont know why they didnt sell no better than they did.  Jim
