OK, what is everybody's favorite design for a touchole liner?
« on: November 13, 2012, 01:59:52 PM »
I have been playing around with different designs to try to learn what works best. So far it is a big cavity on the barrel side and a countersink on the lock side with about .040" wall thickness between them and a 5/64" hole. Very fast ignition, and surefire so far. What else works well for y'all?

I'm with you Nobade. I had such a liner in my Pedersoli Blue Ridge and was perfectly happy with it. I heard so may claims for the White Lightning that I decided to try it just to see what all the talk was about. Terrible mistake, I had misfire after hang fire after misfire, my rifle has never been the same. Once you tap your barrel to that odd-ball 32 pitch thread you can't use any other liner unless going up to a larger size and the 5/16x32 was as large as a barrel flat could stand. I've tried to make the White Lightning work like my old liner and have gotten some improvement but still not to match my old liner with  deep recess on the inside and a shallow recess on the outside.
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.

As to specific make and model of a liner...its a non-issue for me.

I like a flash hole that is 1/16 inch in diameter. A flash hole much smaller than this and I get inconsistant ignition...a flash hole much larger than 1/16 inch and I get a noticable reduction in velocity.

Coyote...Are you sure your touch hole is in the right location???

That will also cause misfires...I've got two flinters, one built by Bob Watts and one I built myself that go off instantaneous...It could be the location...
