It's kinda funny, up here in the north the CW is never discussed. I cannot ever remember a conversation where it was brought up in other than as a reference.  I travel to the south quite a bit and I don't think I've ever not heard it brought up during a trip down there.  Very strange, I don't know if it's bitterness that they lost or that it was in their back yard. Probably a combination of the two.

No it was the murder , rape, and plunder for years after the war.

As they say, "war is hell", and the spoils go to the victor.... Not unlike any other war in the history of mankind.

SHOOTALL, you're right on, as usual.  I will go a bit further.
Bucksin said the northern people of today don't hear or talk about it, but they hear about it if they come south.  Why is that?  Get a grip.  It's a matter of culture.  Northerners are all in the fast lane.  They talk fast, they're rude to each other, selfish and self centered, for the most part.  They don't have time to mess around with what their ancestors screwed up.  They must get on with something else to screw up, like dealing with the northern slums that are the worst on the plantet.  Except they don't deal with it.  They allow it to continue unabated because it is in their culture, in their very nature, to give freedom to the abused even if they can't now help the descendants of the abused, most all of whom in said slums are still expecting to be taken care of by the big government they voted for.  The most energetic of those down-trodden victims survive via the many alleys and avenues that criminals might take, all of which byways are teeming with rats and roaches and the worst of humanity.  The disgusting menace that makes up the northern populated regions are what the northerners have as a "thank you" from their 1860's aggression.
I'm not about to watch the Lincoln movie.  Anyone who can be influenced by a movie, or who needs a movie to reinforce their twisted beliefs, is probably a yankee.

Pretty good example of what I've experienced down south about the subject right there... Although much more agressive.

One thing to keep in mind is the North experince did/does not include CARPET BAGGERS  ;) .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

they both thought it would be a little romp in the spring, maybe the south thought it would be over quicker than the north, the south was hot on the trot, but to fast to last.and when lee met grant the whole war went south for the south, grant would not go back north after a battle as other northern generals had no matter if he lost or won,but kept hammering at lee. and with the over whelming resources the north had, the south was just out supplied and out bled.eastbank.

I saw the movie and thought it was great. My question is why all the hatred still. get over it and be thankful that you are Americans. What, do you think you still would have slaves, if Lincoln just let it happen. I have walked in his footsteps, down the same paths he took and to tell you the truth, maybe we should have let you go and when your country collapsed, we could have LET you back in. Instead, one of the hatemongers, who had no clue how bad he was messing up, shot the greatest ally the south would have had. Johnson was no friend of the south and this dam hatefulness needs to be flushed down the toilet. this is not a third world ghetto. The federal troops then are the U.S army now. NOT invaders. Who gives a dang what started it....IT'S OVER

OK lets look at the time line(s) , january 10 , 1861 Confederate batteries on Morris island fire on Star of the West , a union ship trying to resupply Fort Sumter . When union forces were in route to resupply the fort a second time and SURRENDER HAD BEEN TURNED DOWN by the union at least TWICE the fort was fired on around april 12 , 1861 . BTW the ships comming were armed  ;) this time old Abe couldn't abandon the Fort it would look bad.
But don't forget that union forces first fired on Confederate forces near Fort Barrancas near Pensacola Fl. on january 8.1861  Hey isn't that before either time that shots were fired by Confederates ? and wasn't the Confederates in Fl. from Alabama not South Carolina ?
Time line ? Facts ? QUITE !

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Carlos_de_Barrancas
Civil WarSketch showing 1861 harbor defenses at entrance to Pensacola Bay. The town of Warrington (shown east of Fort Barrancas) was moved north of Bayou Grande in the 1930s to provide land for Naval Air Station Pensacola. In 1861, during the American Civil War, there was a company of 50 U.S. soldiers stationed at Fort Barrancas, under the command of John H. Winder. On January 8, Florida state troops under Colonel William Henry Chase demanded that the federal troops surrender the fort, which was met by warning shots meant to repel the militia. As Winder was not present (and would later be promoted to General in the Confederate Army), Lieutenant Adam J. Slemmer was acting commander. Lt Slemmer knew that Fort Pickens was easier to defend, so he spiked the guns at Barrancas, loaded ammunition and supplies on a flatboat, and moved his company across the bay to Fort Pickens which was held by the Union throughout the Civil War.
Confederate soldiers from Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi were then stationed at Fort Barrancas. While a small company of soldiers could man the fort successfully, additional sand batteries were constructed along the coast, and operated by these soldiers. General Braxton Bragg took command of Confederate Pensacola on March 11, 1861, and continued work on the batteries. On October 9, a Confederate force of 1000 troops landed east of Fort Pickens, but was repelled by Union forces. Fort McRee and Fort Barrancas exchanged heavy cannon fire with Fort Pickens on November 22–23, 1861 and January 1, 1862. However, in May 1862, after hearing that the Union Army had taken New Orleans, Confederate troops abandoned Pensacola.

every time I hear AMERICANS who live a little further south than me whine about them losing the ability to destroy the country that we all live in, it makes me sick to my stomach. If you don't like it......MOVE your happy butt somewhere else.  You whine about the cotton, the slaves, the federal troops,,blah blah blah.  YOU know dang well that slavery is wrong, was wrong and will always be wrong. The stupidity of states rights is what almost stopped the colonies from getting together in the first place. Go freaking back to England. You should ashamed of yourselves for teaching your children this hatred. Every one of you that has roots in the south has reason to remember the terrible things that occurred in the war, as do those up North. I absolutely have no ill will toward my fellow countrymen, in any state. I have no reason to. My parents never made mention of this. This unending hatred should be redirected towards those who won't let it go. You better believe that each side killed as many as they could. I read a book on the war,,,and yes I can read,,,,that OUR General Lee, remember he was in charge of the U S forces before the war,,, never allowed anyone to speak ill of Grant for the rest of his life because of the way he and his forces were treated after signing the end of hostilities at Appomattox. Similar hatred as yours caused Booths actions.

Okay, this isn't funny anymore...  I will use the following as my serious post for this year.

Young man, you have done more to aggravate me in your total of 3 posts on GBO then anyone here ever has.  You have absolutely NO right to judge us.  Disagree, yes.  Low rent, no.

But with this statement you destroyed the credability of any of your opinions:

The stupidity of states rights ...

I would suggest you read the Constitution and think about what it says.

Well I guess we agree on one thing, This isnt funny anymore and from this side, Being the Yankee side, it never has been but for the most part we basicly ignore it because of where it comes from I guess .
It seems you dont feel we as northerners should have an oppinion here .  If you take your own advise and look into the Constitution I believe we have a right to an oppinion as well as you do.  You may not like it the same way I dont care for with the Name of this Bias Thread .   Most people here can get along and chat just fine but there seems to be maybe a dozen or so that will divide the north and the south no matter what the topic.  I think this started as a simple Question about a movie and someone changed direction like always.  No Problem, Just remember if you throw a stone this way one will be coming back.  If you cant accept that maybe you need to rethink things a little.
                 Enjoy the day

Well getting back to the movie, I didn't see it as really being about Lincoln even though he was the central character. I thought it was more about the closing year of the war and about the political maneuvering to get the 13th amendment passed. As to the man himself, I don't call him a "great" president. I think he was very wrong headed. He violated the constitution while claiming to protect it and totally altered the union while claiming to restore it. George washington is rightly called The Father of Our Country, he risked his life every day on the battlefield and in the sickness of the camps to lead and hold together an army by the strength of his personality alone. And after victory he reluctantly agreed to serve his country for eight more years as our first president. Lincoln was never anything but a lawyer and politician, the two most disreputable professions a man could choose.
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.

getting back to the movie,

I'm not familiar with the movie.  Is this the one where Lincoln is a vampire slayer?   ???

I saw some clips from that movie advertised on TV.  It struck me that the movie was another attempt at subliminally indoctrinating the masses.  Lincoln is the touted as the savior of the country by slaying scores of vampires who would distroy life as we know it; said vampires being thinly veiled personifications of southerners!   >:(

I'll bet the vampires even said y'all and whistled Dixie!   ::)

There's a new movie about Jeff Davis?  I guess I missed it.
