CCW permits, a different type of question

In this day and age it shouldn't be that big an issue to link your CCW to your drivers license, particularly in areas that have a some type of coded DL. The down side is if either the DL or CCW is revoked you would have to replace one or the other. This may be why they do not want them linked.

A picture ID type CCW permit (like a drivers license) would be preferred over that pink piece of paper with a signature and description, or better still, like motorcycle, and CDL endorsements, just add a CCW endorsement to the drivers license.

Please think this through before endorsing such things.  If it is on your DL as an endorsement and you find yourself at a traffic stop someplace like the communist state of Illinois, you can rest assured yourself and everything you own will be searched.  Already if you go there with out of state plates and such a thing as an NRA sticker somewhere visible you will be detained at the very least, and possibly searched if the cop so desires.  Happens every day. 


Why on earth would anyone want to submit to a photo I.D. and yet again another source of government handling all your information?

The back of my license shows the CCW as an additional endorsement. So to read it off it includes Hunter Safety Certificate, Carry Permit, Double or Triple Trailers, Airbrakes, and Tankers. I have not pursued the legalities but still carry my Permit to Carry.
 
The license does not include an expiration date, which no doubt could be ascertained by an officer who has my DL in hand. Which brings to light another interesting detail. Whether I tell the officer or not he will know I have a permit as soon as he sees the card. I'm okay with that, were I in his shoes I suppose that is another bit of background I wouldn't mind having between initial contact and calling in on the radio.

In Va you carry both the ccw lic is only valid with a DL. and if a cop calls in your DL number he is told of your ccw. so revocation is not a problen as far as lic are involved since if you lose your DL they issue you a state picture ID .

My Ohio CCW permit looks somewhat like my DL , pic , home adderss , ect . It also takes a 12 hr. class to get , both class room + live fire at the range and its good for either wheelgun or sewing machine no matter what you shoot in training .
 
As far as the training , I realy don't have a problem with that aspect of the permit , the handgun is a tool just like a car / truck or any other complex machine , and we all know that some people just can't grasp the skills needed to master them .

With patients, I think most people can become proficient with a handgun.  We had a 83 yr old lady who was able to shoot a 238 out of 250 when qualifying.  She later killed an attempted rapist at her apartment..

I also believe the law part of classes are good as it takes away the BS so many seem to believe .

I agree. Here we were also given a booklet from the Missouri Highway Patrol covering Missouri's Conceal Carry laws and mapping the states that honor our permits. It's a mighty handy thing to carry in the glovebox of your vehicle. We were also given a card with our instructer's phone number so we can call with any Conceal Carry questions that might arise.

A few of the above post concerning TX CHL are not quite accurate. 
Texas requires a minimum of 10 hours instruction including range qualification. 
The license is similar style to a driver's lic. but does not intentionally have the same number. 
If you are carrying under your CHL you must notify LEO if asked for ID. 
If you qualify with a semi auto you can carry any handgun action.  If you qualify with a revolver you can only carry a non-semi auto.
Minium qualifying caliber is .32.  You may carry any caliber.
Initial license expires on birthday after 4th year of issuance.  Renewal is good for five years.

I was instructed that you were now not required to notify you are a CHL license holder( as was the case earlier) when asked for ID by a LEO.  I do have a Texas CCL.
