Henry standard 22Mag lever

Evening guys,
In keeping with my affinity to the 22Mag, I think its time to get that lever. I WAS sold on the Golden boy, but things have changed and a flash gun may not be the best choice. My need has changed from a "want" (Nice attractive flashy gun) to a "need". Where stealth and consealment are a bigger requirement.
 I want a Blued Henry 22 Magnum. There are quite a few videos on UTube and people really seem to like them.

I searched back on this forum to the mid '90's and found only a couple threads with feed back on this model.

Tell me what you think of it.

Fondle the "T" before you buy. Closer to an adult size gun. Mine is a 22LR, but has the balance of a centerfire that I just didn't get from the round barrel model. Kind of wishing I had got my T in 22 mag, but I know I wouldn't have shot it as much at 20 cents/shot as I do at 3 cents/shot.

  Mine has the octogan bbl., and i like it a lot.  I have nothing but good things to say about Henry lever rimfires!

Ooh... I didn't know they offered a octagon barrel!!!

I have asked two or three times for a catalogue from the above banner..... Still no luck.

I'm pretty sure I will have to order it anyhow... Octagon for sure! ;)

I've been wanting .22Magnum shooter and have trying to find a Winchester 9422M, but they are so scarce and expensive that I have about given up on one.  My second choice, now moving up to 1st choice is a blued Henry w/octogon barrel.  I know it's cheaper to shoot a .223, but in populated rural areas the .22Mag would be quieter to shoot.  Now, what kind of accuracy does the Henry have?

     I have the 22 mag with octagon barrel plain blueing. Shoots great, I put a peep sight on it from skinner and now it's the slickist little rimfire I own. If  you go to a range everyone wants to shoot it people just can't keep there hands off it. especially after they try the peep sight.  I had a little ejection problem for awile but it was just some crud built up in the extractor. My opinion two thumbs up.

I hear ya brother!

I have been waiting for a Marlin lever in Maggie but don't want to mortgage the house to get it!!
It too have passed on Winnys because of price.

I was looking at some posts on UTube and the people really seem to love the Henry rifles.

From what I have seen its not a distant second choice accept if your wanting a collector.


You also bring up a good question. How do they shoot guys?! ;)

I see the front site is integral with the barrel band.... Is the front site driftable?  I mean is it a separate removes it so one could change out front site?  I will likely peep mine too but as its gonna have to be on the 3/8" dovetail. I'm thinking a taller front sight will be mandatory...

Can you offer advice as to what you did with the excellent skinner peep?

I love mine. Very accurate. I put a little 2.5 power scope on mine. You,d call me a liar if I told how far out I've hit crows with it mine seems to do best with cci maxi mags. Awesome customer service too.

The front sight on the H001T (octagon barrel) is a Marbles 45W with 3/8" dovetail; probably the same sight on the H001TM.
I had to change mine to a Marbles 53W to get the Marbles semi-buckhorn sighted on the first step of the elevator ramp.
Bottomed out it shot high.
If you go with a Skinner, you will probably need something taller than a 53W. Marbles site has good applications info.
I went back with the smaller bead in gold.

     The peep sight from skinner is driftable dovetail with set screws so you don't have to mess with the front sight .  I didn't have to change out my front sight although my peep is turned all the way down. It's simple to tap the elevator sight out of its dove tail with brass punch and small hammer. then replace it with the skinner sight. The tapped holes are underneath the elevator ramp, at first I thought it was kind of odd haveing the peep so far foreward then I realized it didn't catch on anything because it setts so low and out of the way. I didn't go for anything fancy just the straight blued sight and standard apeture.

I did not realize the skinner replaced the factory rear.  I was thinking it mounted to the dovetail.

I'm pretty well decided on the octagon barrel. Altho weight is a consideration. Looks have a say too. ;)

Called a friend and he is checking price and stock.

I GOT ONE!!!  8)

I called my friend and he was sure he had one for me.. He did but it was a Golden boy. I looked at it, but found the stock as a ton of drop, Just like old time rifles and shotguns... I don't like that at all! He made osme calls and found that they took a very bad hit with Hurricane Sandy and seems not too many distributers have Henry rifles in stock... At least not the Octagon 22 Magnum.

So, I spent about an hour on the phone calling as many shops as I could find... Most carry Henry's in stock, but where either sold out or only had the LR. One of my last calls hit pay dirt. But not my prefered Octagon barrel... BUT the price was cheaper than most too so I grabbed it.




It has some pretty nice wood too!!




I installed a peep that I had and its gonna work just fine...







I am not too thrilled with the front site... as long as it shoots straight all will be fine. But there is no provision for movement...



Thank you very much for all the comments and suggestions!!

I love the feel, Sunday we will see how she shoots! Stay tuned...  ;) ;D

Well all I can say is I am impressed...  This thing is a shooter!!!  At 50 yards with CCI HP AND Hornady V-MAX shot groups TOUCHING!!!

Out at 100 its about a 3-4"group but this is with peep sites!

This is the Hornady 30g V Max bullets, 10 shots at 100 yards.



This is the CCI HP's, 5 shots at 50 yards. (Benched of coarse.)  ;)
