converting 45/70 handi to muzzleloader
« on: November 17, 2012, 04:33:55 AM »
I see a fella named slufoot has converted some 45/70 to muzzleloaders. Just wondering if you do this for a living. I'd be real interested in talking to youabout it. I'm new tothis forum stuff so I'm not sure how to contact people with pms and such. I appreciate any information on conversions. thanks, Jack

I converted a Shikari H&R 45-70 a few years back.

I purchased a knight breach plug (209 primer)..... had to drill a small amount and threaded the barrel to accept the breach plug.  It works and shoot great and I keep the charges between 75-100 grains of BP.

I did all my work using a lathe.

Slufoot did mine and I absolutely love it. Short, light, and shoots great. I am in the process of selling my Savage 10ml because I like the rifle so much.  Heres what mine can do,

:)  I heard from slufoot.thank you slufoot. sounds like a good deal to me. just have to get through upcoming back surgery and we'll get this started. I been shooting front stuffers for about 35 yrs, mostly flinters as i do 18th century renacting.I always was turned off by inlines, till i started messing with handi guns.I've had an old huntsman for years, 58cal, i'ts handi for sure, just not real accurate. My 54 flint bear gun shoots circles around it. the smokeless powder thing is what intreages me. I plan on using sabots and cast bullets as I'm cheap. Anybody use .358 cast in 45,s ? I thinkmmp makes them. Anyway thanks to all for the information and congrates to all successful deer hunters and if you're not successful, remember; it's the hunting, notthe killing..
