MOA can be shot at any distance.  My M4 will do it 100 yards.

my load testing for guns is done under the best bench conditions i can use. Im not testing me im testing my gun and load. I first want to know that the gun and load are capable. Then i shoot it in field positions. That way a guy will know that its him and not his rifle or load that needs work. As to the 3 shot vs 5 shot argument ill go this way. A hunting rifle is rarely shot more then once let alone 5 times. So you have some argument against my 5 shot routine there. I do it because ive just found in the past that it gives a more accurate assesment of a gun then a 3 shot group. But in an ar used for self defense or just out blasting its rare that when you start pulling the trigger your not going to stop before the mag is empty. An ar that shoots 1 inch for 3 shots then opens up to 4 inches after that isnt what i want. Most of my ars will shoot the load i have for them into an inch even with the barrel so hot you cant put your hand on it. I want to know that after 5 or 6 quick shots the gun will still hit where its aimed. In my opinion if anything even a 5 shot group doesnt really show you much in an ar and you should probably be shooting relitively quickly fired 10 shot groups.

In my opinion the only gun that is a TRUE moa gun is one that consistently shoots moa groups. Whether it's 3 shots or 5 shots or 20 shots... the group has to be moa each and every time. From one day to the next it must shoot repeatable moa groups regardless of the situation.
Very few guns are capable of such consistent accuracy and still fewer shooters are capable of it.
Ok. From what position should these groups be shot? The bench is for testing ammo and seeking out the best fit for the rifle in question. Practical accuracy involves shooting from a field position. Which? What sights?

I disagree. A gun is a machine. If it properly constructed and maintained and fed consistently loaded ammunition, I suspect that there are many rifles that will shoot consistent MOA groups.
The limiting factors are the ammo, the shooter and the conditions, not the rifle.

I haven't tried a hot barrel test on my scoped AR. I think I might do that just to see where it hits after a mag dump. I really don't think it's that big of a deal if it opens up a little with a hot barrel though. It's not like I'm in combat or shoot competitively with it and my important targets are usually running full steam after the first shot anyway, so a MOD rifle would be just fine. (that would be minute of dog).... ;D

Would probably be a pretty interesting test...since I pretty much expect MOP....Minute of Pig...ha ;D ....the old Rem 742 was bad about slinging shots after it got hot...of course it also had a buggy whip barrel on it compared to some of these AR'S...barrel O.D on mine I believe is .938.....has to be quite a few rounds to get it hot....but still interesting to know ;)

That is a good point. You would be unlikely to even find any AR out there right now. It reminds me of when ZerObama took office 4 years ago, actually I think it's even a bit worse.  You can't even find bulk 22LR ammo this time around....

I looked on line at the biggest indoor range in Metro Phoenix. Zero ARs. Very limited 1911s. No 5.56 or .223.

Like I said in the post doesn't matter much what brand you buy today your chance of getting a moa gun is more then id guess 75 percent. Cheapest factory gun I ever bought was a dmps sporticle. It had a pencil thin barrel and still shot moa groups and if I told you the best groups I shot with that gun id probably be called a lier. But some 2230 and a 60 grain ballistic tip would make it tough to count how many shots you actually shot at the target. Anymore I consider an ar15 that shoots moa the norm and an exceptional one will do 1/2-3/4 moa.
