Shooting 32/40 BPCR Low Wall
« on: February 11, 2004, 03:01:52 PM »
Hi Fellow BP Shooters,
I have shoot 45/70 BPC, but have been thinking of shooting a smaller cartridge, i.e. 32/40. The reason being to use at shorter ranges such as 100-200meter shoots. I know it has accuracy potential, but just heard from another shooter that it has fouling concerns due to the smaller bore size, and I would be better off w. another calibre such as 38/55. I can understand the bore concerns from a muzzleloader viewpoint, but I thought as BPC it would be fine. Pope shot this calibre a lot. I was thinking of spinning the 45L.Colt barrel off a Browning Low Wall and rebarreling in this calibre.

Any comments. Will this work well as I had planned for short range target matches? Thanks for looking.

Though I shoot a 32-40 frequently I can't address your concern regarding fouling directly. My rifle is a schüetzen chambered Ballard: I breech seat and duplex load. With the use of as little as 2.4 grains of 4759 there is no black powder fouling buildup with most lots of Goex FF.

Thanks for the input. I will bear this in mind when the time comes to start loading. I think I will serously consider using this calibre. This will be a little way off since I have not acquired the basic rifle yet to rechamber. I have seen the Ballard site and do admire their rifles.
