Forearm o-ring

I have a Handi Rifle in .223 and have been trying to shrink the groups. I read on here about putting an o-ring in under the front forearm. Just exactly where does this o-ring go?
You can see in the picture where the metal from the post is touching the wooden forearm by the indention on it. Should I relieve this contact? This is my first Handi and I really like playing with it but am a little stumped right now.

There's a good pic and description on floating the forend in the FAQs sticky, it goes on the barrel stud, see O-RING FLOATING and using a pressure point on THE FOREND

I read that and it showed me where to put the o-ring but I couldn't find anything that addresses the issue of the post of the barrel touching the forearm itself. Should I remove the extra material in the forearm so it doesn't touch?

The barrel shouldn't touch anywhere in the forend channel except at the stud and near the chamber swell.

the o ring and a very light sanding of the forearm with a dowel rod wrapped with a light grit paper, til the barrel fit nicely made a big difference in my groups, (this was on my .270).
