When cleaning out my grandmother's house recently, my dad found his granddad's old Marlin 30.30, model 93. It survived a fire in 1960 which took his granddad's life. It has the words "special smokeless steel on the side of the barrel, and "marlin safety" behind the barrel. The stock is burned off, so I can't tell you anything about the shape of the butt. The serial number is C2975. It has a round, approximately 20 inch barrel. Can anyone tell me when this gun was made and anything more about it? I was told that the model 93 replaced the model 1893 and was made between about 1904 and 1935. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. It has a lot of sentamental meaning to him as everything else of his grandad's burned in the fire. We are looking into getting a new stock for it and getting it repaired Any suggestions?
