Sabot Trajectory - 3" vs. 2 3/4"

Well I finally got my "dream gun," a Savage 220 bolt action slug gun - which will be used for hunting dear in "slug gun only" states.  However, I'm wondering if anyone has sighted one of these in using 3" slugs vs. 2 3/4"?  I got mine to shoot one-inch groups at 100yds, which is really something for ANY slug gun, but after 100 yards the slug is dropping 15-18 inches to reach 150 yards!  I was quite surprised.  After looking through the written stuff that came with the gun again, I found a card from Savage that says they recommend Remington Accutip Sabot slugs - preferably 3" - sure wish I had read that BEFORE I bought the Accutip 2 3/4" and got all sighted in.  Anyone have experience with this?  Especially looking to see if there will be a great improvement by switching.  At $3.00 a shot I'd like to know if it's really worth it before heading to the store.

Try going to a ballistics table. Punch in the data and see the difference. Check out external ballistics.http://www.biggameinfo.com/BalCalc.aspx

Something does not seem right.  I don't get nearly that drop out of my 20 ga. with the Remington Premiere.  12 ga?

You don't say what slug you sighted in with but using either of the Remington accu-tip slugs or the Federal Barnes 3" load my 220 (sighted in 3" high at 100 yards) is still within 3" low of the crosshairs at 150 yards.

There's only about a 50 FPS difference between the 2-3/4" and 3" Remington slugs.

 Some of the Federal slugs get good reviews, my buddy likes them. I use the Hornady SST. I'm going to use my Browning Gold over my M-L in IL for this next hunt.

   I wouldn't worry about going with the 3" if you're already sighted in with 2 3/4". In most cases the only difference is the shell length(maybe slight pressure increases), they have to remain within pressure limits. There is enough room in the 2 3/4" to fit all they need to in there.
