I woke up with my rt kidney hurting. Doc said to take the percocet WITHOUT the xtra tylenol and said to take it 4 hrs apart instead of 6. Also started the other pill a type of prednisone. I've used the heat pad and not sure how but te kidney doesn't bother me now and going from 6 to 4 hrs has helped too.
Will have a scan tomorrow. I still have trouble walking, standing, or laying down but feel much better. I was hoping to put it off til my ins kicks in but I hurt too much so tomorrow I should get some answers. Thanks for the prayers. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

When my wife had her knee trouble they tried the injections, then scraping to stimulate new bone and cartilege , then went ahead and did the knee.  Didn't help that much with all the pain.  A xray of the hip showed it was a lot of the problem--bone on bone what there was left, mostly worn away to nothing.  We still had to wait 8 months for her to finish her cancer and radiation treatment--first things first.  We think, but no doctor will exactly admit, that cortisone shots in her back for disc problems contributed to the eroded hip joint.  So make sure they check all your leg to find everything wrong.

Keep lots of tea or some fluid going into you, all the medicine is having to be eliminated.  I sincerely hope you have good neighbors and friends close in the community to help while you are both down.  Don't do like most of us want to and be too self reliant to accept some help.

On the insurance stuff:  Our hospitals and doctors are taking payments on the deductibles, co pays, and co-insurance.  They also had "special" rates for uninsured but medical care is still expensive and out of control for we honest working stiffs.

After going to taking the percocet every 4 hours the pain was much better. Other than getting up for the bathroom I actually slept all night, went 8 1/2 hours with no pain pill. I thought, this is great, I don't think I need a pill this morning, yeah rt. Got the scan today and I was miserable trying to lay flat on my back and not move. I'll know something by Friday. The wannabes don't understand why we aren't going walking, I really miss that. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

The scan showed 4 bulged discs, they are pressing on the sciatic nerve, I was up most of last night again from pain, I had 3 good nights before this latest round.  I've been taking 600 mg ibuprofen to make the pain pills last longer, it doesn't come close to relief. Doc says I need a spclist. My ins should be good but it would still be thousands of $ with the 20 %. Trying to find a supplement I can get before I do anything.
I'll have to get more pain meds tomorrow. I was up and down most all of last night. Sat on the couch because I couldn't lay flat to sleep. Getting on the puter kinda takes my mind off things and passes the time too. Hoping for some relief soon. Charlie.  Shocked Shocked

The little good news about that 20% is that there is an amount (mine is $5000 out of pocket) where it becomes catastrophic coverage.  Then they pay 100%.  The bad part is insurance goes by calendar years, not illness years, so everything resets on Jan 1.  This gives you the choice of getting started in December, or waiting it out to January.   And most of the hospitals and clinics have to take payments since a lot of us don't have the means to pay a lot out of pocket.

The specialist may be able to use injections or therapy to strengthen the discs.  If not, my boss had the real deal operation and felt immediate relief when he came out.  Said he should have done it years before.

Saw doc today for meds. He said the discs aren't just bulged, they had actually come partly out of their sockets. Appt with a specialst won't be til Jan 9. In the mean time I reckon I'll be on pain pills, heating pad, and a lot of sleeping sittin up on the couch. Pain pills are the generic for loritab. They help some, the pain is still constant but I can live with it. POWDERMAN.  Sad Sad

I can certainly relate to your back pain---debilitating is just the first word that starts describing the effects.
I certainly will pray---and that is really the best source.
Hang in there---wish i could do more--feel helpless.
Blessings

Have you considered a Chiropractor my son happens to be one
He has a table the will slowly stretch your spine,You may be
a candidate for this,I was never a Chrio enthusiast until it hit home
I have bulged and Herniated in my neck and back
The machine works its not as immediate relief like a percocet
However you will notice the difference
The reason I mention immediate is most folks want total relief NOW
thats how addictions to pain meds start and when you see a Good Chiro
it will work its just a time spread med way of working
I hope and pray all works out for you
I know pain and Know its miserable

TOMMY T. I may look into a chiropractor, I don't want to go another month before seeing a dr. The new med, loritab 10- 500 didn't let me rest last night. I went to bed 3x, the last at 4 AM. I mostly slept sitting up on the couch. Called dr to see if I could take 1 1/2 before bed but haven't heard back from him. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

I'm still miserable. These 6 hr meds work somewhat for maybe 4 hours. I'm really fed up having to sleep sitting up on the couch. I was prayed over this morning so I expect a big change soon. This has been going on 2 1/2 weeks now. I'll sit with 1 heating pad on my rt lower back and another around my leg. Pain is constant. When I think I can lay down I do, but most of the time am back up pretty quick. Last night I laid dwn for the last time at 530 am. The spclst said the Jan appt was my drs request, I'll find out why tomorrow. Got to be a mis communication there, no way my dr would let me hurt like this intentionally. Prayers appreciated. I AM NOT A DOCTOR !
Pain can sometimes be helped by cold back packs applied to the area effected.
I know that my leg cramps are helped more by cold than heat.

I am standing with you in agreement--The Lord does see all of this in real time and I believe He will have mercy on you.
Blessings

powderman,
I hope pain is subsiding somewhat!
A few years back when I was going through all of that pain, sleep was a rarity! The pain was such that I could not sleep but finally would drop off because of complete exhaustion for maybe an hour or two. Wake up and start all over again! Like you, tried setting up to sleep, worst part was being in bed and in pain and have to use the bathroom!! All I could do was roll over to edge of bed and fall to the floor and pull and crawl myself to the bathroom.
So you have my heartfelt sympathy and I pray for you a speedy recovery!!
