When my wife had her knee trouble they tried the injections, then scraping to stimulate new bone and cartilege , then went ahead and did the knee. Didn't help that much with all the pain. A xray of the hip showed it was a lot of the problem--bone on bone what there was left, mostly worn away to nothing. We still had to wait 8 months for her to finish her cancer and radiation treatment--first things first. We think, but no doctor will exactly admit, that cortisone shots in her back for disc problems contributed to the eroded hip joint. So make sure they check all your leg to find everything wrong.
Keep lots of tea or some fluid going into you, all the medicine is having to be eliminated. I sincerely hope you have good neighbors and friends close in the community to help while you are both down. Don't do like most of us want to and be too self reliant to accept some help.
On the insurance stuff: Our hospitals and doctors are taking payments on the deductibles, co pays, and co-insurance. They also had "special" rates for uninsured but medical care is still expensive and out of control for we honest working stiffs.
