Trigger options for Remington 750
« on: November 25, 2012, 05:23:59 PM »
I imagine this has been asked before but, I couldn't find it. I have a Remington 750 35 Whelen that I really like. I have had no problems with it except the trigger. I know I will never get a fine bolt action like trigger in it but, I also know of three options to make it better than it is now. They are; first buying a factory competition spring from Remington. Two, Timney offers a new sear and spring option. Three, I found a webpage that will change out the factory trigger for a two stage trigger.
So, the question is which one is best and are there other options? I know I could also just take it to a gunsmith and have them smooth out the sear but, that will do nothing for the seemingly half inch travel in the factory trigger. Any help would be fantastic.

I installed the Timney trigger fix yesterday. I tried both the two pound and three pound springs and went with the three pound spring. Installation was easy and only took about fifteen minutes. I also learned a bunch about how my trigger assembly works. In my opinion the Timney was worth the money. It easily took out 75% of the creep (but not all) and cut the pull weight in half (and I could have gone lighter). I had a chance to shoot the rifle this morning. No problems with function at all. It still isn't perfect but, it is much better than it was. I certainly think it was worth the money. It's over priced but, I think it was a good choice.
