VERY impressed with the New Simmons
« on: November 27, 2012, 07:00:58 AM »
I needed a variable scope for my 22Maggie H&R. I knoticed a sale at Matchez and ordered a Simmons Pro Hinter 6x18x40 SF because the 4x12 was out of stock.
Well all I can say is OMG! Looks great, clear as my older Leupolds! Image is undistorted clear to the edge. Zero "tube" effect that's so common at scopes of this price point. Last year I bought two like this a Pro Hunter Simmons AO 4x12 that's OK and a Tasco Tactile 2.5x10 I never liked. Both where 100-130$.  This side focus Simmons d is just as nice as a older Aetec and White tail hunter classicI have! Both of these scopes have long impressed me. The Aetec is my go to scope for testing for scope problems cause everything. I put it on shoots as good or better then previous scope.

Anyhow, the Simmons has much improved eye relied and clarity compared to the the Pro Class I bought just last year. AND IT WAS CHEAPER!!!!!

I am SO impressed I have ordered four more!!! ;)

Give them a look I know you will be impressed.

Bought a couple of those Natchez Simmons Pro Hunter 6-18s at least two years ago, put them on mid recoil centerfire rifles and still use them.  Decent scopes and I've no real complaints about them.  Another brand scope to think about, LOL, if you ever need another low priced scope, is a BSA Majestic DX Hunter.  The Majestic DX Hunter line was first available in early 2011, replacing another Majestic scope.    First one I bought, a 6-24x44 SF, cost me over $140.  Liked it enough to buy a second one a couple months later.  Chuckle, when Grafs put it on sale for $90 a month or so ago, bought my third one.  Just my opinion, but think the BSA Majestic is a better scope.

CW,
  Does the entire rear bell turn when the power is adjusted? Natchez is showing the 4-12 In Stock as of right now.

I have yet to really use them at dusk and dawn, but last trip to range was overcast and spitting snow. View was clear and bright.

What impressed me the most was eye relief and clarity. Every bit as clear and bright as Leupy Vari X and VXII scopes. Now if they can remain clear at dawn and fading light is the next question. But clarity at top power settings has been very nice.

I have these on rimfires and One 6x18 on my 223 HB Handi. This one goes song dog hunting o I will get to see just how well it works at dawn and dusk.

I guess these are too new for even the Simmons site cause they do not list them under PRO HUNTER. but under PRO SPORT, the field of view are as follows;

6x18 = 14.7/5.3 @ 100
4x12 = 23.8/8.5 @ 100

this is a little off subject but i followed cwlongsohot's advice and purchased a 6-18x40 Simmons form natches.  it is my first purchase for natches,  i ordered from the internet on 12-29 and it has still not shipped.  i have received several e mails saying they are running behind that it will ship soon but it has not as of yet.  i guess my question is should i be concerned about receiving my product?  the money was taken form my account on 12-30.

Sorry for the delays!

you can call or email them, but I am pretty certain they are simply swamped with orders...

Just about every online dealer is SWAMPED with orders!! Local dealers here have people parked up and down the roads like its a 99 cent yard sale for 100$ bills... ::)   MANY online dealers have a disclaimer on the front page of there sites telling customers they are 3-5-7 days BEHIND on orders.

I would give them some slack, its not really there fault I am sure they are all working really hard to fill all these orders.

thanks for the response.  Sometimes I just get a little excited about my new toys.  I was really not concerned about not getting the scope,  I am just a little nervous since i have never purchased anything from them.

Don't worry at all on that account...they have taken many hundreds of my $$ over the years. :)  ::)

Come to think of it, I did have a delay in shipping on one order and was worried as they took funds a good week before shipping my order. In the end, I worried for nothing... Everything arrived I just needed to be more patient, something I too am no good at. ;)

Sounds like they are keeping you informed with the emails about the delays. That's a good thing. The communication I mean, not the delays. ;)

Sorry, the scope you've purchased (and most of the other PRO HUNTER model scopes) was discontinued after Bushnell acquired Simmons from Meade.  That is why price is so low.

I Finlay got the new Simmons mounted up and a chance for some time in the lead sled this afternoon.  The results were great.  I took 3 shots at 30 to get on paper, then to 50 for 3 more,  then to the 100 yard line for several more.  The scope was clear and brite at 100 and the marlin preformed perfect.  I removed a low price Bushnell and replaced with the Simmons.  I could never get the rifle to group with the Bushnell but today the last 3 shot group had 2 touching and 1 appx 1/4 inch to the left.  I was blown away with the results.

Thanks for the recommendation on this one CW.

Glad you like it then!  I was really impressed with the first one.. as I said I now have 5!

BTW, Dosen't matter to me one bit if it discontinued or is Bushnell now owns them. They are a damn fine scope for the $$!!  I would have more if I needed them!!

I just ordered 2 because of what you guys said about these scopes. It is hard to believe that a $60 scope can be that good, we will see.

not sure about this particular model, but I put a simmons 44mag in 4-12x44 with side focus on my .243 and I love it.  I dont have a leupold (or other high-end) to compare to, but it is by far the clearest, brightest scope I have.  I had my sling break one afternoon and it fell directly onto the scope, I didnt have a chance to grab it or anything, no change in zero.  Time will tell if it continues to hold up.
