Folks, c'mon. This is exactly the response the artist wanted, and you are falling for it. The best thing you can do is completely ignore it. Actually, ignoring it as either a work of art, which it is not, or a socio-political statement, is the worst you can do to it. If you want to do something personal, go beat the schmidt outta the artist or chain him up in a dog kennel, next to jamie foxx; doesn't matter, the only thing that makes this so upsetting to so many good people is exactly what the artist wanted, your reaction. About the best thing you can do to that waste of paint is to simply throw it in the trash. This is like the old propaganda photos of che guevera, showing him with as such a revolutionary hero with such a forward (communist) look on his face; hell, if they had shown instead the photo of him (taken with a US Army 8th Special Forces Group issued Leica camera) as the weak, skinny pos he was laying on a army cot with the muzzle of a US M1 Garand pointed at his chest, and then in the next photo of said same corpse with a US M1 Garand muzzle blast and bullet hole through his chest there would have been much less 'memorializing' and 'deitizing' of someone who was little more than a common criminal. If he had been hung from a low branch like the common criminal he was the 'life of che' would have been a short one-liner on a roll of army issue toilet paper. Same with sadam hussein - if the photo of him swinging from his gallows with his neck stretched out of proportion and his face in his death grimace had been passed around I doubt it would have been pasted to as many walls in as many homes as was his visage of being a innocent victim of American injustice.
Geez, if ya really want to do something go throw rocks through the artist's windows, and keep it up all winter until he finally takes it down or moves south or leaves the thing for the trash, but don't waste your time and breath on crap like that, which is exactly the response he hoped for. I mean, even if the guy moves to nyc, which is where he is probably hiding now, constant mailings of packages of dog poo will give him the same idea. Maybe you can invite him to pray for his family at the altar of hosama da boma and see if that stops the mailings of the poo.. just a thought or two....
