Found a good combo to clean the in-line
« on: November 29, 2012, 10:56:41 AM »
I found something I really like for cleaning the muzzle loader .... round patches . I bought a TCS muzzleloader patch jag at the gun shop in Walworth and was having a heck of a time trying to push the patch down the bore . I talked to the guy in the store and he said that I was using the wrong type of patch . He said pushing a square patch through a round hole wasn't the way to go and showed me a pack of round patches at $4.99 for 120 .
I thought it was a bit pricey but bought a pack and gave them a try . Wow ! They are awesome compared to anything I had been using and they come in different sizes . The rubber "O" rings on the jag hold the round patch tight to the barrel and you can run the cleaning rod up and down the barrel . I couldn't do that with the square patches .
I bought the 2 3/4" round patches that work great with the special jag and are for .38 / 357 cal and 9mm & 10 mm . I can also use them in my 12 gauge shotgun barrels . I looked for the patches on EBAY , Amazon , Cabelas , etc for a better price but couldn't find them on those sites .
Has anyone seen the patches in any store ? The company that makes them is The Professionals Choice and the great thing is ..... they are made in the "USA" !

I doubt the shape of the patch has anything to do with your results fast*eddie. In all likelihood the patches you were using were a little too thick for your jag/bore combination. I'll bet if you measure the thickness of the round and square patches you will find the round ones are thinner.

Found these http://alcotarget.com/osb/itemdetails.cfm?ID=1242  close enough, I would imagine.  I'm inclined to agree with Semi though I think these might be a little thicker than some.

$13 for a 10000 isn't bad at all but i'm looking for the 2 3/4" patches . I found something that works and want to stick with it . Thanks for the heads up  . Maybe I will contact them and see if they have what I am looking for .
I think the guy at the store where I bought the jag has a Patent on it and the darned thing works super .

If they do not, you might contact the manufacturer as to where and how you could buy a supply of that particular product.
