445 super mag case from 303 Brit case?

Read that on another thread. I wonder how hard it would be? Anything other than cutting the case length down? Can any other cases, rifle or pistol, be used to form 445 SM cases?

I have been wanting a 44 mag single shot rifle to ream to 445 SM but stopped looking when I saw the case prices of the 445 SM.

Also does anyone make 44 cal SP single shot pistol bullets?

I have 30-40 Krag cases that I use. I'm using them in a Dan Wesson revolver, so I don't have to trim the rims.

444 Marlin cases can be used, I believe, maybe not.

The 445 was derived from 30-40 Krag brass. It has a .455-.457 base diameter

The 303 is real close (.460). I'd try it.

Hornady makes a 225 gn FTX bullet:

From the looks of the 303, it should not be hard at all, just probably have to turn down the rims some. Cut the case, run through the sizer die, then trim to length. Pretty simple really. Probably need to make a template of some kind to make cutting off cases simpler and consistent, might be able to use a flaring tool clamp.

Lon371, I cut cases right at the beginning of the shoulder. I have an expander that has a long taper, about 1/2 inch. The cases have an hour glass shape. Then I use a plain 44 cal expander so that the case straightens out enough to accept a bullet. Trim to consistant length. Then I load them up and go. No fire forming.
Blind Ear, I have an old timer who has been shooting and saving cases forever that gave me a couple hundred. So no cost

     I've owned a contender 12" barrel 445 mag since 1992. Used it for deer alot of years. Starline brass makes the cases and it is excellent brass. I tried the 30-40 craig cut down and fireform it works but the real thing is just better ( brass thickness of 30-40 is heavy). I bought 100 cases originally and am still shooting them to this day. Mine loves the 300gr seira fp. I've killed deer out to about 80yrds, never liked scopes on this kicking fool so I just run the original factory sights. Factory bullets 240 and under just can't take the impact on shoulder bone, had 2 come apart in deer and made a big mess. Never used a crony on them but contender book said about 1800 fps for a 14" barrel , after that experience it was nothing but 300gr's for me. They allways go through. Probably pushing about 1500 fps, buy decelerator grips and forearm for it to help tame the beast that comes out when you pull the trigger.  ;D ;D

Just purchase the Starline brass or whatever other company makes that cartridge...

It will be easier and you can start reloading as soon as the brass arrives...

I have 100 Starline that I bought years and years ago and many of them have been reloaded over a dozen times...

I really haven't loaded many to maximum, but some near that with cast boolits...

I am getting 1700+ fps from a Super 14" barrel with 240 grain cast...

Maybe could get faster with jacketed bullets, but I don't shoot many of them anymore--too expensive...

But, full bore loads will definitely get your attention with recoil.  I found them very unpleasant to shoot...

 I can get plenty of free brass in 45 70 here. Few reload around here. Being a "stomper" is the level I was wanting to not get into but to meet caliber size requirements for muzzle loader season here in MS it is hard to avoid and get decent trajectory. If "tough" low weight SP projectiles were made for the 44 and 45 calibers getting some flatness would be easier without worrying about bullett preformance. I might look at a sabot round for the 45 cal and see if I can hit a barn with it.
