Rush Limbaugh
« on: November 30, 2012, 12:28:45 PM »
Last Wednesday Rush Limbaugh was saying the government needs to cut Federal Employee retirements, before they do anything else.  Well I'm a retired Air Force Msgt who would hate to lose my Air Force retirement.  And there is a lot of other reitred Military members that will agree with me.  We put our lives on the line for twenty or more years for this country.  Now someone with great influnce with the Republican Party says we should have our retirements cut.  Military personnel are Federal Employees.

They have already took our health care program away, and made us take Tricare.  Now few doctors will accept Tricare, I'm told to pay up front then I can submit to Tricare for reimbersement.
Where is old Joe when we really need him?  Alaska Independence    Calling Illegal Immigrants "Undocumented Aliens" is like calling Drug Dealers "Unlicensed Pharmacists"
What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

There are already two Federal Retirement Systems.  (CSRS and FERS, with FERS being less generous on the Pension calculations and more heavily employee funded)
There needs to be a Third one for employees who start after TODAY.  It consists of a 401K with an employer match on contributions, PLUS a pension that is employee funded and administered by a NON GOVERNMENT ORGANIZATION.

Get the pension money out of the Governments hands so that it can actually be invested and provide a return.

As long as the Right follows Rush, nobody's going to follow the Right.

If you did your time dangerous or not, you deserve your retirement. Years of being not at home, moving your family at a moments notice, long hours with a salary type pay.
They have already all but taken the importance of your vote away from you, leave what little you
have left alone.  Go for the thousands of illegals that are flowing into this country sucking it dry.
THIS is our biggest problem right now, and most of them hold no allegiance to this country.
You want to talk about flag degradation? They need to leave their flag back in the country it came
from. Because if that country is so great, why are they here ?

when I hear about government workers, the military never comes to mind.  they are not workers, they are warriors and always deserve more than they get.
so I agree with you about Rush.

General Motors was 'failing' because they became a retirement org. that just happen to make and sell some cars. The 'legacy' cost were killing them, it was mathematical and predictable. The 'Gov. Employees are a similar situation; in many cases way overpaid for what they do and benefits far beyond the private sector. I agree that Rush L. was not likely even hinting at cutting the Armed Services benefits. but this insinuation will be used by the Left to further demonize a rational approach to deficit spending.
I advocate elimination of any retirement or continued health care funded by taxpayers for those in elected office.
Rank & file should be paid and beni'ed commensurate with the private sector.
Im still undecided about what to do with bureaucrats, I know what I'd like to do with a bunch of them.........
BTW CDQ, if the Right becomes more like the Left why should anybody vote for them at all, they still wont be far enough left for lefties and will have abdicated any responsibility to deserve conservatives; it just ain't logical.
Quite some years back the Communist Party USA stopped fielding candidates for POTUS, their spokesman said they didnt have to anymore, they had the Democrats.

The problem is that workers were guaranteed a pension per contract. Regardless of the terms, the companies agreed to them and signed off. Now, decades later, their life mostly over, the workers are being told by the companies" we just cant afford this". This is no difference than Bernie Madoff or snake oil salesmen. If all the men who sat on the board of directors and the chief officers of those companies were hung, and their families deported to sub-saharan africa, perhaps the next group would be more thoughtful. I thought that the Chinese solution regarding the company that had the lead in the toys was very creative, they were marched outside and shot (as far as I heard).
If you  are thinking that I will promise this now, and then in the interim figure out how to weasel out of it, this would tend to make you think some more. The way it works now, you can screw everyone, live high on the hog, and by the time fate catches up with you most of your life is over, the resources are gone and cannot be recovered, and someone else has to make up the difference or the little guy is just out of luck
Maybe some of you guys should just take home a tank, or a plane, or a ship- start your own charter service  :o ??? ;) 8)

History is rife with pension funds that went belly up and the retirees who lost it all.  With the exception of our military retirees, I see no reason why government employees should be any more exempt from pension mismanagement than anyone in the private sector.  One way to avoid this situation would be for all forms of compensation to be paid at the time they are earned.  The pension part of compensation should be handled the same as 401K and IRA funds as regards taxation and distribution.

Rush was making a point that government in general should not get a free pass when it comes to making the cuts and adjustments that must be made to stop the out-of-control government waste.  I'm absolutely sure that he was not including the one department of our government that is essential; the country's defenders.  That doesn't mean that I believe that all military spending is justified.

General Motors is a loan company that makes a few cars.  They failed because the loan business is in the tank.  Congress and the President should get nothing when the leave office.  That would save some money.

To me Limbaugh isn't an entertainer at all, just a windbag.

DDZ, you hit the nail on the head about congressional pensions and the need to have the same health care plan as they have forced on the masses but this is a perfect example of what happens when the fox is in charge of the henhouse, so to speak.

military retirement is a extremely good deal, and very, very expensive.

very expensive. Play your cards right - commissioned at say 24, stay for 30,out at 54 as O-6 or at 20 as O-5... it's a great deal.

The largest voting age group in the US are people over 65.They vote at the rate of over 60%
The retirees in the country are responsible for electing the President. Since the largest employer in the country is the Federal Government, you don't think they will mess with the retired vote do you? Theirs will be the last retirement check to bounce.

The AARP link below tallies the election results instead of being a pre-election prognosis.
Overall seniors voted for Romney. In every swing state, except Florida, they voted for Obama so they may be responsible for his win.
