Got an issue w/neighbor

I feed the wild pigs, a smattering a day, and have fed them for 15 straight years in order to hunt them by drawing in to my property from the State land that is adjacent.  The neighbor now traps and eats/sells them.  Not what I intended, but that is the situation.

I suppose I need to trap them myself.  I am not set up for that.  But I am not going to continue to feed $1,200 worth of corn a year, sit on stand hours a day seeing nothing, and then find their carcusses in a trench, on his land, that he dug with his front end loader, and didn't cover up very well so the wild hogs and/or bear uncovered them to stink and smell bad.

this would probably work.  I think there's laws that cover the burial of large animals.

I don't know where you are, but I'm in the County and the County still requires I either take a dead carcuss to an approved County dump or call a rendering Co.

I am not mad at the guy.  He is my neighbor for 10+ years and we have a decent neighborly relationship.  He hauls me out of the pond/mud/ditch when I get stuck and I leave him alone.

He lives on his land.  I routinely hunt my land.  He is doing nothing illegal that I can tell. 

He is skinning and gutting, but his trenching and backfilling leaves a lot to be desired.

Before I got all pissy with the neighbor, I would go visit with a cold six-pack. Offer to cull the pigs off for both your benefit. Maybe put a feeder and stand on his land.  Only difference,  really, is you hunt and eat them..... If he blows you off, THEN get pissy.

instead of beers, show up with a coupla
sacks of lime in the truck bed and say
" hey , i brought you this lime to put
over the pig carcasses in your bury hole.
do you wanna do it, or i can help you,
or do you just want me to do it?"


i wouldn't let the neighbors leave cow
carcasses out at the back to draw coyotes
and breed flies and disease, and i dang sure
wouldn't want a whole assortment of pig guts
adjacent to me.

I would be surprised that other hogs and coyotes don't just eat the leftovers pretty fast.

I'd say negotiation is in order. Tell him where you are coming from and seek a mutual agreeable plan so that no one is put out. but you have to tell him whats on your mind to get the ball rolling. The six pac or just a soda would set the stage to get things on the table.
 
 
From my experience trapping eventually dries up since the swine aint that stupid for long.

   It is against the law for him to hunt or trap these hogs and then SELL the meat.  Violates state game laws, and well as the federal pure food and drug act, and the related state statutes on meat inspection.


  I would get on the phone to the State Capital, and make several calls to find out exactly what agency is charge of enforcing these laws.  Maybe it is the game department, maybe it is the consumer protection department.  It will not take long to find out.


  Once you find the department, tell them that you want to make an anonymous complaint.  Give them your neighbor's name, address, and all of that good stuff. 


  Hopefully, someone from the State, wearing a badge, will show up on his doorstep, tell him they've got an anonymous complaint, and tell him that if they catch him doing it, its a felony and he'll be in jail in short order.  This may put a big damper on things. Truth is, he could kill someone by selling them this meat.


  And also tell the enforcement people that while they're out there on his place, to look at his slaughter pit.  Believe me, they'll get tough with him.

I agree about laws preventing the sale of wild game meat, but not because it hasn't been inspected. 99 percent of the meat you buy in the store hasn't been inspected. There's not enough inspectors in the entire country to inspect all the pork, beef, and chicken you see in the stores.

Just some info I got from a fed inspector here in Texas.

  Though most commercially prepared meat is not physically inspected, the facilities in which the meet is processed is, in most states,
routinely inspected, by both federal and state health authorities.

  Speaking of health, the County health department will come right out if you report that open slaughter pit. They love issuing fines for
gross violations of the health laws, with no real defense.

In Florida wild hogs are not a game animal. It’s legal to hunt them, trap them, or just shoot them year round. No caliber restrictions either.
