New old 325c
« on: December 01, 2012, 09:52:04 AM »
Picked up this beauty today for $160. 30-30 cal.  Nice leather sling and the stock has been refinished and it has the original sights.  Missing the mag though. These were made from 1947-50.  My son was looking for another deer rifle so I grabbed this. It is so cool that I may just hang on to it and turn it into a scout rifle.

Came with this odd looking scope mount. The center indexed wheel moves the silver bolt forward and back which I assume is what locks the scope on. Don't know what the hook on the top is for. It is marked Stevens 325c on the back side of the mount. The stock is inletted for it.

My late brother-in-law had one about the same vintage he deer hunted with for years and years.
Good shooting old rifles.  Been a while since I've seen one priced that low - you got a deal!

I know they take a side mount scope base, but I've never seen one like that - no idea what kind of a set up that is.

looks very similar to my 340 in 30-30. if its the same you should be able to get a decent scope mount.my 340 has the side mount and the scope is slightly off center of the bore but works fine.mine ios very accurate.

The 340 is the later version of the 325c. I know there are modern mounts available, I was curious about this old one.

The mount has been identified as a Pachmayr Low swing mount. There are some for sale on ebay with photos.  The knob in the middle moves the center (silver) bolt thing which locks the rings on. The hook thing on the top is actually a stop which holds the top ring portion up under spring pressure. The rings then either are up, or an be swung away to the left to use the iron sights.

I have one like it that I sent out for repair to a gun shop about 12 years ago.  The shop closed up and the gunsmith moved away.  I figured I'd never see it again then out of the blue, I get a call from a common friend and the smith dropped it off to them to give to me.  I won't be able to connect up with them for at least a week so I'm up in the air about if it was fixed or not.

Anyway I'm excited to shoot it again.  Mine has a Weaver side scope mount and as I recall a rather crappy scope.  If it looks good, I will have to replace that scope with something better...  I'm thinking this would be a good rifle for my grandsons' first hunt.
