Hey Marv, thanks for the compliment. The fore arm is a pretty good
match, not perfect but close enough. Big suprise when I opened the box
at the Dealer mans counter and saw that nice wood. I'm also very
pleased at how it's shootin, the Hornet had me nervous with a few reports of it needing a bit of tinkering to shoot well.

Offhand 35,
Good looking group! Thanks for posting them. I have the 7mm-08 in a laminated stock, that I have heard was a special deal that some suppliers have gotten.

Don, the stock & fore end on my 7mm-08 is laminated also, but it is finished in the "natural" color rather than the green/red/black of the ultras.

David,
Same here. I'm sort of partial to a gloss finish on nice wood, so I stripped the finish on mine, and gave it a tung oil finish. When I stripped it I found it did have a stain, but not real dark. Now it's just a bit lighter. I had never tried a laminated stock before, but I was real happy with the results. I can't seem to keep a rifle without refinishing it.

That's a great lookin' piece! The only thing missing in those pictures is a downed whitetail. Which scope did you mount on it?

It's a tasco 4x-32, another mechanic at work gave it to me. It was given to him and he had no use for it.
Thanks for the compliment, I think it's great looking too

Every so often there is a question on whether a sportster stock will fit a handi or if you can put wood on sportsters, well here's a couple examples of wood rimfire sportsters:

Big blue, their moonlitin's not mine, I'm just gathering pics and assembling them here.  But I'd assume they're NWTF medalians, but it's take a PM to moonlitin to be sure.

Hey Scruffy this is so late don't know if you'll catch it or not , but really want to thank you for takin time to put  together a gallery. Some of the guys have a nice set of guns.
I'm still interested in dressin up my 223 handi with some stock work. I called Wenig's and they do have a pattern cut for an OEM stock. If you wanted a different pattern the charge would be $45 plus the wood.
Example; Medium Grade Fancy American walnut $180 + $45 first time set up.
Anyone ordering the same patten at a later date would not be charged for the setup.
A little to pricey for me so I'll just do a little sandin on mine and a oil finish to set it off.
   Again, thanks for the pics.

You betcha, I've been a single shot fan seems like forever and tho I'm not a great schuetzen fan but can't help wonderin what a handi would look like with a rollover and a deep palm swell grip. Maybe a gripcap and fore end cap. Wouldn't help me shoot like Jeff but might spark a little interest when you pulled it out.                 olredhead

A bunch of nice looking guns all you guys...I can't wait to purchase that digital camera(in the next couple of weeks) so that I can add my H&R/NEF's to the mix.  I have a laminate monte carlo stock and forearm on order so I will wait till they come in to take the pics.  I'm going to put the laminate wood on my SB2 shotgun frame while I have my 12GA Ultra Slugger barrel on it.  During turkey season, it wears a 10GA barrel and the straight stock will go back on.

Well, I guess I better get one of mine in the gallary.

This is my sportstser 22 mag.

It has a 6-18x5mm bushnell banner scope,
weaver high rings, floated forearm, marlin "microgroove" rifling,
choate (makes NEF's stocks) straight pistol grip stock,
harris BR bipod, and modified allen shell holder on the buttstock.

Haven't shot this setup farther than 20 yards yet (did that tonight) but it's
last 5 shot group of the night was .186".

I'll get some more of my pics in here after my ultra 20 dries completetly.
I've just redone it's furnature for the upcoming season.    :-)   So stay
tuned.

Here's the 22 mag sportster:
