Cimarron 1885 22rf poor accuracy

 :(" src="http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/Smileys/default/angry.gif">  Well...I have a dilemma...I have a Cimarron 22rf..30 inch barrel...set triggers...nice...haha It doesn't shoot like it looks...I have shot several bricks of ammo thru it...Lapua...Eley...Federal ultramatch..and the high velocity cheap stuff..best groups are 1.5 to 2.0 inches at 50 yd's....with a 6X Malcom vintage scope...I had my gunsmith look at the rifle...and he also re-crowned it....didnt help...I have several 39A'S that shoot .500/.750 with peep sights on a good day...along with my Martini's....I am thinking about cutting barrel back to 26/28 inches..with a target crown..if that doesn't work...install a Redman liner? I have also talked to Daniel Lilja about another barrel for the last resort? I am trying to get this rifle ready for Silouette's in January....I know I should not have bought an Italian replica and then expected great things...but I am stuck with it..and need to make the best of it...any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated....Thanks

before you go nuts,check the scope. i have a 52win target that i had a 12x unertl on that went from a one holer at 50yds to 1-1.5 inch groups with match ammo, i replaced the scope with another and the gun went back to being a one holer. scopes can go bad even unertl,s, eastbank

Might try ditching that leatherwood scope, and going with a good set of tang sights. (not the cheap junk from Pedersoli/uberti etc) something like the MVA 130 or schuetzen soule sight.

Both of you are probably right...especially the nut's part...I took a unertl off of a friends 85 low wall Winchester....same results....and yes I was warned about the Leatherwood scopes..I was told several times about the MVA...I do have good rings on the optics...the rifle was actually put in a ransom rest...and fired @ 50yd's...not good...again...alot of this is my fault...I'm probably expecting way to much...I have shot sub-sonic...all the match ammo...and the 1300 FPS stuff..which is about 6 inches @ 50 yd's...this is crazy...I talked to Cimarron....they said they could not gaurantee accuracy ????

You did check and make sure the bore isn't leaded up ?

Yes I did....nothing....I slowly ran a rod thru it...nothing feels bad....I even took the fore arm off and shot it.....same results??

well i sure will not be buying any rifles from cimarron,you would think they would stand behind a rifle that cost as much as they do. eastbank.

Well.....good news...my gunsmith took 4 inches off of my barrel and re-crowned it.....the three inch groups..went to .500/.750 at 50yd's.....much,much better...now don't ask me why? The same ammo was used SK..LAPUA..ELEY..RWS....life is now good..ha..Thanks
