New UNFIRED stainless 45-70 barrel price?
« on: December 03, 2012, 06:21:15 AM »
I'm really leaning towards getting the 45-70 UH because I like the nickle receiver and the thumbhole laminate as a base for 35 Whelen.  If I wanted to make the sale of the completely new and unfired barrel within 4 weeks of posting the ad, what would be a realistic price I could get for it?  Thank you
An no, I will not keep the barrel. I appreciate the caliber but have no use for it.  The WANT part is the very fact my handi's are USE orrientated :)

The SS Ultra Hunter 45-70 frame isn't nickle, it's stainless, the only stainless frame they've made.  ;) If I were selling mine, I'd prolly start at $175, but it's not for sale.

That's good to know. Learn something new everyday. It would seem that frame would be in high demand in rainy climate areas.

Thanks, Dinny

'Polish it up'
Nope, I dont want it reflecting; I remember an article that made a strong case for a brushed or mat finish SS as being far less reflective, and thus visible to game, than a dark blue that is on well polished metal. Its not the color, but the reflectivity, I guess. Same with Blaze Orange, if it is on a shiny material it gives you away over being on a 'soft' material.

Just practicing for when you post the barrel.  (Patiently standing in line.)
