What happed to Billy the Kid? Good book 2 read
« on: February 12, 2004, 08:54:01 AM »
Just finished reading a book What Ever Happened To Billy The Kid?? By Helen Airy. She makes a good case for a guy who died in Prescott Arizona by the name of John Miller in 1937 as being the real Billy the Kid. Miller only told a few people he was really the kid. Most of the book is interviews with the kids whose parents knew Miller and some cases knew the kid in NM. A few of the interviews are with the people themselves that were still alive when she wrote the book. Some of the ones still alive knew Miller only as Miller but some knew Billy the kid first hand and knew John Miller. All claimed he was really the kid. I heard about Miller years ago but now just reading about him. What do any of you know about this claim?? To look at a picture of Miller he looks way more like the kid then Bill Roberts does. I got the book on Amazon.com I think for 7 dollars it is good reading. Check it out she makes a very convincing case for Miller being the kid Miller is buried in an unmarkked grave not to far from big nose Kate. Would like some of you that are into reading about the kid with an open mind to read the book and tell me what you think.I got the book on Amazon.com used for about $8.00 If you like that kind of reading it is well worth the money

There was program on BTK last night on History Channel and they had another guy in Texas who died in the 30s also claiming to be the Kid.
There was fair evidence to suggest Garrett murdered the Kid while he was unarmed also.

After reading the book I talked about above and doing some more checking to me their is a very good case for BTK being John Miller. If you are interested in things like this I would recommend the book very much

Most, not all, but most, that have done reputable investigations of those who claimed to be the kid have come to one conclusion. The Kid died as is depicted in the first accounts.
The legends which followed have never stood to investigation, either scientific or historical. That said, it is interesting reading and great speculation.
My thoughts, well, betcha he is dead by now, whoever he was.

There is a very good case for the Kid being the guy in Texas shown on the History Channel the other night also. Which leads me to agree the Kid was killed in the house by Garrett as legend states.

This scenario has been proposed for several different historical figures; Jesse James, Butch Cassidy, Billy The Kid, Anistasia and Elvis are the ones I'm aware of.

Jesse and Anistasia have been pretty well been debunked. I sincerely doubt the possibility of Billy not being killed by Pat Garrett. It seems it is against human nature to keep major secrets.  Even though the Elvis sightings are a joke, I included him to illustrate how people want to recognize, discover some one famous within the sphere of their lives. That is how American's Most Wanted has had so much success.

Of course it is fun to speculate on these mysteries and conspiracies. Do any of you know of any one who has disappeared who was even locally famous and resurfaced some where near their death?

While not even "locally" famous, even to tha family--I have thought I was dead several times only to resurface alive even though I didn't believe it possible.

Reading this again made me realize Roberts was the guy they profiled on the History Channel special.
I'd like to see a photo of Miller, but with only one existing bad photo of BTK, I'd think it would be somewhat hard to tell.

Speaking of debunked, forensic tests done in 1993 on the two Americans buried in Bolivia show they were NOT Butch and Sundance, but that's another story.

I to watched the history channel story about BTK. I for one never seen anyplace were they proved Garrett killed BTK. If anything it showed their is allot of doubt that it was BTK he killed. To me if you read the book " Whatever happened to Billy the Kid" by Helen Airy it does make a good case for BTK and John Miller as being one in the same. Outside of the book i've also read "Encounter with the Frontier" by Gary Tietjen He was a historian who wrote about the genealogy of the Ramah  area of NM. His relation were some of the first white settlers in the area who know when Miller and his wife moved their. As I say read the book and see what you think. Miller is buried in the Pioneer Cemetery in Prescott AZ. He isn't to far away from the grave of Big Nose Kate He is in an unmarked grave.

o.k. I'm going to be VERY Clear about this. John Miller and Brushy Bill (Oliver P/L Roberts), were NOT Billy the Kid (Patrick Henry Bonney McCarty). They were IMpostors and at best Distant Cousins by Marriage to Billy off of Different (Unattached to Billy) Lines.
I do NOT have to read Books to tell me this, because I have right now, here at my Home; Billy's TRUE Genealogy. He is My Cousin.
I am going to the Family History Library on the 28th ot obtain Final Documentation to Prove out what I currently have.
I also have TONS of Photographic Evidence to Prove that Billy and I are; In Fact, Related.
I have shown this Work to Authors and Historians and also to Billy's Descendants who All can tell you that what I have is not only MORE than what they all have, but is also True and Correct to the best of what they have as of yet seen.
Sorry to go off on such a Rant, but I can only tell y'all this; Don't believe Everything you read.
Legend is Legend and can Always be Disproven. As well as can Impostors such as Brushy Bill and John Miller.
The Billy I know and Love that is My Cousin, was Killed by a Shot to the Heart, Ambushed by Patrick Floyd Garrett July 14, 1881 at Abrana Garcia's Room, Ft. Sumner, NM.

Oh, and just to be Clear about Oliver (P/L "Brushy Bill") Roberts' Family Line, Check Adeline Dunn off of the James/Younger Lines. That's where you'll find his Family Tree.
You'll find John Miller off of the Holliday/Hardin/Starr/Miller Lines. Sorry to Burst Everyone's Bubble, but I have been researching Family History for 16 Years, and this is what I have found.
Billy the Kid (Patrick Henry Bonney McCarty) However; His Line goes as such: Dods/Dodson/McConnico/Walker/Hunt/Bonney/McCarty/Antrim
My Line (and this is how Billy's and My Lines Split), goes as such:
Dods/Dodson/Dotson/Denney/Clark/Bryan
the McConnicos Married into my Dodsons and are my GGGGGrandma (Nancy Hogan McConnico) and my GGGGGGrandparents (Her Parents).
So, Billy's and My Lines Split at the Dodson/McConnico Line.
Just thought y'all might like to know.
