  A newly-released, graphic photo of George Zimmerman, taken the night of his fateful confrontation with Florida teen Trayvon Martin, shows the accused killer with a bloody face.
Zimmerman’s legal team released the photo, which they believe bolsters their case that Zimmerman, 29, was being beaten when he fatally shot the 17-year-old Martin in the chest. The photo was taken by police and only released to Zimmerman’s team recently, said Zimmerman’s lawyer. Previously, the team only had a black-and-white photocopy of the picture.
 
“That's really one of my frustrations. They originally submitted a black and white photo so we asked for a color copy. They then submitted a color photo copy that was drab," said Zimmerman's attorney Mark O'Mara to Foxnews.com.
"We kept asking for a digital copy and then we had to file a motion [in court] to have it submitted."
O'Mara says that the discovery phase has been rife with issues.
"It just seems like it's been pulling teeth for discovery in this case," he said.
Martin was killed Feb. 26, in a confrontation that sparked a national debate on race, guns and Florida’s controversial Stand Your Ground law, which states that people under attack do not have a duty to try to retreat before using deadly force.
 
Martin’s defenders say the youth was merely cutting through a gated community in Sanford, Fla., after picking up snacks during halftime of the NBA All-Star game when Zimmerman, a volunteer neighborhood watch captain, racially profiled him. Zimmerman claims the youth acted suspiciously, and attacked him, bashing his head against a sidewalk.
Zimmerman told investigators he grabbed his gun from a holster on his waist before Martin could get it, and shot the teenager once in the chest. A tape released by his lawyer shows two butterfly bandages on the back of Zimmerman's head and another on his nose.
Zimmerman’s lawyers said the photocopy of the image was provided by the prosecutors in the first round of discovery. The high-resolution digital file was finally provided to the defense on Oct. 29, and defense attorneys have said they will make all public documents related to the case available on their website.
 
Prosecutors had asked for the gag order, claiming a website and social media used by Zimmerman's attorney could influence potential jurors in the racially charged case.
On Monday, Zimmerman's defense team publicly released a motion, filed the same day, asking  for the additional deposition of one of the lead investigators due to information that surfaced during his original interview on Nov. 19th.
Requests for comment to special prosecutor Angela Corey's office were not immediately returned.

I've said before that I don't know all the facts, but one thing I know is that whenever the prosecution stalls on discovery it is usually because they don't have solid case. It's a bluffing game designed to wear down the defendant mentally and financially.


I've heard this assault described as "brutal" quite a number of times but (just in my opinion) if I had to judge based only on this photo, I would say no brutality points awarded.
That doesn't look like an "tail kicking" where I come from. Seen more bruises and blood from grade schoolers slugging it out [size=78%]. [/size]But what do I know

45-70: Like I said before, we do not have all the facts. And yet many on this board seem to have already deliberated. As far as what justifies an arse whoopin', you seem to have covered it pretty well yourself. But the variable factor here and in your own statement is the big IF.

In the perfect world    in which we live (yeah right) of course we do not assault people for mere words. But as we all know, it is not a perfect world and there are often three sides to every story; "YOURS, HIS, AND THE TRUTH" We also know that dead men tell no tales thereby making it a sound practice for one to not leave any witnesses IF one has possibly stuck their foot in "it" or maybe bitten off more than they can chew.

In[size=78%] [/size]the situation you described, imagine IF it was Martin who was assaulted (remember, there is a difference between "assault" and "battery" and yet in both cases, self defense is justified to whatever degree the victims fear is legally convincing. Picture it. Martin sees that he is being tailed and smarts off to "Mr. Tough Guy Watchman (with a gun)" (an adult). "Mr. TGW (with a gun) gets brave thinking "hey you can't smart off to me like that punk" and he goes and tries to push his weight around  and bites off more than he could physically chew, gets his tail whooped just short of wetting himself and of course he's going to pull the gun.

But like the rest of every ones PRE-DELIBERATION, this scenario is a BIG IF.
Based on what I've heard about Zimmerman (and it is loosely based, I concede), he strikes me as that type who like so many, without their ego, their gun or badge handy, would stand two inches tall.


Just my take here, but IF I was a prowler and was seen and called out, I wouldn't waste time setting up an ambush for anyone; rather, once I was called out by home owner, neighborhood watch or who ever, I would be making tracks and looking to make myself disappear. But that's just me.


I believe that the unabridged truth in this case will NEVER be known by anyone but Zimmerman. Their are just too many "IFs" and that is why I stated that "one could PRESUME".


I'll save my legal and moral judgments, and let the screwed up system sort this mess.

the New Special appointed prosecutor came up with an arrest and a reason why it takes X amount of
time to gather evidence,to make an arrest
 
What is was IMHO with the special prosecutor was to tame the rioters please the black community
and Get Jessy and Al back up north to bother someone else

You will lose every time on this one; it is not illegal to follow someone, but it is illegal to bust someone for what you think is following.  How do you determine if someone is actually following you?  It is quite possible that it is coincidental.  How would the punk know that Zimmerman was not a cop?  What about yourself; how are you to know if the person you think is following you is a creep, a watchman, or maybe even a cop?
 
In the Zimmerman case, he had stopped following and gone back to his vehicle--per police instruction.  That was where the punk jumped on him.
