Syrians moving chemical weapons.

Clinton didn't address the issue of the fresh activity at Syrian chemical weapons depots, but insisted that Washington would address any threat that arises.
An administration official told the Associated Press that the trigger for U.S. action of some kind is the use of chemical weapons or movement with the intent to use or provide them to a terrorist group like Hezbollah. The U.S. is trying to determine whether the recent movement detected in Syria falls into any of those categories, the official said.
Syria is believed to have several hundred ballistic surface-to-surface missiles capable of carrying chemical warheads.

Its arsenal is a particular threat to the American allies, Turkey and Israel, and Obama singled out the threat posed by the unconventional weapons earlier this year as a potential cause for deeper U.S. involvement in Syria's civil war. Up to now, the United States has opposed military intervention or providing arms support to Syria's rebels for fear of further militarizing a conflict that activists say has killed more than 40,000 people since March 2011.

Israeli officials have repeatedly expressed concerns that Syrian chemical weapons could slip into the hands of Hezbollah or other anti-Israel groups, or even be fired toward Israel in an act of desperation by Syria. Israel has indicated it would act in the face of such threats.
Clinton said that while the actions of Assad's government have been deplorable, chemical weapons would bring them to a new level.

"We once again issue a very strong warning to the Assad regime that their behavior is reprehensible, their actions against their own people have been tragic," she said. "But there is no doubt that there's a line between even the horrors that they've already inflicted on the Syrian people and moving to what would be an internationally condemned step of utilizing their chemical weapons."
Activity has been detected before at Syrian weapons sites, believed to number several dozen.

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said in late September the intelligence suggested the Syrian government had moved some of its chemical weapons in order to protect them. He said the U.S. believed that the main sites remained secure.
Asked Monday if they were still considered secure, Pentagon press secretary George Little declined to comment about any intelligence related to the weapons.
Syria is believed to have one of the world's largest chemical weapons programs, and the Assad regime has said it might use the weapons against external threats, though not against Syrians. The U.S. and Jordan share the same concern about Syria's chemical and biological weapons -- that they could fall into the wrong hands should the regime in Syria collapse and lose control of them.
Fox News' Justin Fishel and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Another hysteria WMD media Blitz. It appears the warmongers need an excuse to get into Syria's affairs.
If there is any movement of munitions, could it not be to keep it out of Rebel hands?

My Marine SIL's first tour in Iraq was very close to the Syrian Border. Since he was in Force Recon, he was privy to a lot of info, very little he could share, of course. He said there was proof of chemical weapons from Iraq that had been moved to Syria while the U.S. was dithering around. No matter, they were gone from Iraq. No one in Higher was concerned that much. I'm just sharing what I was told by someone who was on the ground and talked with people coming in through Syria to fight Americans at the time.
I would not be surprised if Syria used them on their own people, rebels, whatever. Neither would I be surprised if the U.S. never  did anything about it. I admit, as a Vet, a FIL, Father, etc, I personally do not want the U.S involved with Syria, Libya, any of them, but I'm just a guy. ha
Only God knows just how messed up that whole place will get eventually...

I don't believe anything the Israelis say...their motto is "By way of deception we will wage war".  As far as the Obama administration and Hillary Clinton....well, need I say more?
So, the Syrians are supposedly moving chemical weapons? And these are said to be the elusive Iraqi WMD's that Saddam 'moved' when he was threatened. Those things never seem to get used, but move around more than a tomcat on a hot night.
We got proof though this time.... a SIL's anecdotal evidence that 'he couldn't share'.
Now powderman, why do you think "...more than 40,000 people since March 2011.." have been killed?  Who is responsible?  If not for the destabilzing war of aggression waged against Syria by the corrupt Gulf State dictatorships (such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar paying for mercenary jihadists)' looted Libyan weapons supplied by our new 'allies' there,  and NATO's expertise and weapons and 'intelligence' , these deaths would never have happened.
This is not imaginary WMD's or 'what-if', this is real suffering, financed and led by outsiders motivated by greed and hatred.

iraq did indeed have chemical weapons because hussein used them on the Kurds, and syria is the most likely place to hide'em.

I was just passing on what my SIL told me, he was there, I wasn't, of course. His Secret Clearance is much higher than what I ever had, ha.  It doesn't really matter, "now", does it?  I'm glad Saddam Hussein is gone for whatever reason. As far as Syria, I have no "dog in this fight", my SIL is no longer with Force Recon, and most likely will never get deployed again. As far as Arabs, Persians, et al, they don't need anyone's provoking, they seem to find enough reasons to kill each other even as they are trying to kill Israel off. I don't think anything will keep those people from doing so either. I am just saying my opinion, of course, no one is expected or required to have the same one.  :P

I wish Hillary would think of something new rather than falling back on the same Iraq propaganda. It worked then, why not try it again?

It's a real mess, for sure.

It is ironic too. The government takes away our domestic freedom in the name of war on terrorism, and then it sides with alQuada in Syria. Bring Thomas, mind your own business, Jefferson back.

many of us went places and did things we "Weren't supposed to" or that the "Public didn't know about", while in the service...i did...early in the VN war...we saw things that "Weren't supposed to be there"...at the time, mostly our own, and french, weapons being used against us.

chemical weapons are a fact that's been with mankind for centuries and will likely, not go away.

it's true that Saddam used them against the Kurds, Assad will, probably, use them against the rebels...we will know shortly.

what will we/UN do about it?

i just saw a caveat on the news this a.m. it will take an estimated 75,000 troops to take the chemical weapons from Syria...who, pray tell, will supply the troops? since the United States is the biggest member, and the biggest contributor, guess who will have to send the most troops?

DWALK. If I understand chem weapons correctly, which I may not, the most common and practical way is to incinerate them. If this is true, and we know where they are, a sustained series of incindiery bombs would seem to be a much better choice than using any ground troops. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

UPDATE. Syria loads chemicals into bombs.
« Reply #13 on: December 05, 2012, 02:21:14 PM »
Syria mixes chemical weapons into bombs, as fighting spills into Lebanon  Published December 05, 2012
FoxNews.com    Syria has loaded chemical weapons into bombs and are ready to use them, Fox News confirms.
A senior U.S. official told Fox News that bombs were loaded with components of sarin gas, a deadly nerve gas. They have 60 days to use these bombs until the chemical mixture expires and has to be destroyed.

According to NBC News, who first reported this information, bombs filled with a sarin component have not yet been loaded onto planes, but that the Syrian military is prepared to use these chemical weapons against civilians pending orders from President Bashar Assad.
Gunmen loyal to opposite sides in Syria's civil war battled Wednesday in the streets of the Lebanese city of Tripoli. The fighting has killed six people and wounded nearly 60 since Monday, security officials said.
The bloodshed is a sign of just how vulnerable Lebanon is to getting sucked into the Syrian crisis. The countries share a porous border and a complex web of political and sectarian ties that is easily enflamed.

The Lebanese men killed in Syria were Sunni Muslims, like the majority of rebels trying to overthrow Assad's regime. Assad and much of his inner circle belong to the Alawite sect, which is an offshoot of Shiite Islam.
The fighting in Lebanon comes at a time of deep uncertainty in Syria, with rebels battling government troops near Assad's seat of power in Damascus.
In Brussels, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton reiterated concerns that "an increasingly desperate Assad regime might turn to chemical weapons" or lose control of them to militant groups.

She also said NATO's decision on Tuesday to send Patriot missiles to Turkey's southern border with Syria sends a message that Ankara is backed by its allies. The missiles are intended only for defensive purposes, she said.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu was quoted Wednesday in the Turkish newspaper Sabah as saying that Syria has about 700 missiles, some of them long-range.
Syria has been careful not to confirm it has chemical weapons, while insisting it would never use such weapons against its own people.

But as the regime wobbles, there are fears the crisis will keep spiraling outside its borders. Fighting has spilled over into Turkey, Jordan and Israel since the uprising began more than 20 months ago, but Lebanon is particularly susceptible.

Seventeen times bigger than Lebanon and four times more populous, Syria has long had powerful allies there, including the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah. For much of the past 30 years, Lebanese have lived under Syrian military and political domination.
Meanwhile, the unrest inside Syria shows no sign of slowing down.
The uprising began with peaceful protests in March 2011 and later escalated into a civil war that the opposition says has killed more than 40,000 people.

Besides the violence roiling the capital, Damascus, there was growing speculation about the fate of a top Syrian spokesman who has become a prominent face of the regime.
Lebanese security officials have said Foreign Ministry spokesman Jihad Makdissi flew Monday from Beirut to London. But it was not clear whether Makdissi had defected, quit his post or been forced out. Syria has had no official comment on Makdissi, who has defended the regime's crackdown on dissent.
Fox News' Justin Fishel and the Associated Press contributed to this report.

Our government hasn't told the truth about anything since the Spanish American War and I don't think it's telling the truth about Syria.   This  whole thing smells like a pretext for another war for Israel.

Biological is the real horror, it spreads itself and once it has a foothold a nuke is about the only way
to slow it down. It is 10x more effective than anything else, in the fact it is not localized.
And your enemy spreads it by thier own accord by how unprepared they may be to deal with it .
We hear very little about this anymore, out of sight out of mind. But just look at AIDS they can not
cure it anymore than they can the flu. Which by itself can devastate a population like it once did in the
early 1900s. Now sit back and imagine something manufactured thats both airborne with the killing power of Emboli on steroids !!! Oh yes this is far worse than anything else we have ever seen, and
if we believe that no one has things like this or are not willing to use them we are only fooling ourselves. Did you ever think that the noticeable moveing of chemical weapons might be a decoy for
moveing something else that's much smaller ? And could be manufactured in a building the size of a
school house ?
