Bolt removal
« on: December 04, 2012, 02:08:06 AM »
Anyone know how to remove the bolt from a Savage model 12. ??? And no you don't hold the trigger back and remove the bolt like my other rifles. When i moved the instructions for the rifle got lost in the shuffle.

I don't have one but I would look in the trigger bow for a button to push the one on my rem is in front of the trigger  If that is not there maybe one along side the bolt at the rear right between stock may be very thin and bolt or along the right side of the reciver that pulls out .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

You might try looking on Midway USA or Brownell's sites for an exploded view of the gun and locate the bolt release . Just an idea.

Had a senior moment i think. I ask this same question 2 years ago. There is a lever just in front of the bolt. I haven't shot any of my guns in over 4 years. I think if i shot more often i might remember how to do something that simple. Thanks for the replies SHOOTALL.

With my Axis, you have to hold the lever while depressing the trigger.

Same as this one mechanic. Looks like it takes 3 hands to do it though.

With all of my Savages, you have to hold down a little lever on top, right side and pull back the trigger, then the bolt can be pulled out. It takes both hands, the right thumb holding the release lever down and the trigger back with the trigger finger and the left hand to pull the bolt on a right bolt gun. It sounds much harder than it really is. I have done it so many times, I do not even think about it. Even my long range target action works the same way.

And for the sake of completeness, the newer Savages have a button in front of the trigger guard instead of the lever on the side.
