Taurus tip up .22 with plastic frame?
« on: December 04, 2012, 04:57:49 AM »
I had one of the little aluminum framed, tip up barrel .22 made by Taurus.  It was a nice little package, had a decent trigger and was very accurate.  I could consistently hit soda cans at 25 yds with it.  Anyway I passed it on down to one of the kids.  I see now that Taurus advertises an new version with the 'plastic' frame that seems very interesting.  If the old one had any drawback, it was that it was a bit on the heavy side for pocket carry.  I believe that the plastic frame version would be enough lighter that after I buy one, I will likely keep it forever.  But I haven't seen one in person yet, don't know if they just haven't het the shelves yet, or I just haven't been in the right place at the right time.  Anyway that's what this post is for; have any of you seen or handled one yet?  44 Man

I have their 22BR  (aluminum-framed). I haven't seen the polymer one yet but the spec sheet says it's only about an ounce lighter than the 22BR and has a 1/2" shorter barrel.

I've had two Beretta 21 "Bobcats" over the years. Little better fit & finish than my Taurus. They weigh about the same as the new plastic Taurus guns and only cost about $40 more (MSRP). It's not DAO though, so has the hammer spur that's not as good for pocket carry.

I have a Taurus PT22 POLY, and really like it. Very light, and accurate. Not my carry gun, just don't trust rimfire for that roll, but it makes a great practice piece. The grips are a bit bigger, and bulkier than my Ruger LCP, but the trigger pull, and feel is very similar. I can do a lot of shooting for much less than it would cost for 380 ammo.
I got mine last July. Bass Pro had them on their Father's Day sale but when I got there they were all gone. They did offer a rain check, and mine came in about 3 weeks later. I think the sale price then was $189.00. Well worth the money. Fun little mouse gun.
Gallery of Guns show them available, and the price including tax, shipping, and transfer fee to a dealer in my area is in the $250-$265 range. http://www.galleryofguns.com/genie/default.aspx
Bud's Guns list them as being in stock @ $198 and ships free. You'll just have to arrange the transfer fee with a local dealer if you don't an FFL yourself. http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/index.php
Cheaper than Dirt also shows them in stock for $226 and change. Again you will have to add shipping and transfer fee. http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/CategoryListing.aspx?catid=1659
