Price is too high... If you can get it for around $275 then its a better deal... or if you just gotta have a .280. I tend to lean toward the short action calibers.

It's a great caliber, but that price is stiff for used.  I usually pay from $175.00 or so for used polymer, more for a laminate stock around here.

That Swift scope will jack up the ante a bit.  They go from 160 to 229 dollars per, depending on the model, etc;  That said, the 280 is a great round, and the 26 in barrel lets you use it's horsepower.  It is getting close to the 7 mag with all bullet weights.  They may be a bit nose heavy for you though.  All that being said, $275 is realistically the max for a used handi, even with a good scope.

all this talk of 280's I may just have to look into one.

too bad the shoulder is so far forward that you can't rebore to 35Whelen.

but then there is always the 9.3x62, or like Quick, the 35Whelen ImpImp!

Hey quick, Can a 280 factory be chambered in an ImpImp? or is the shoulder even more forward than that?

are there any cartridge dimensions/drawings on that one?

ETA:  I guess a 35/280 would work also.....

If'n I was gonna do another Whelen, it's be the Brown/Whelen, no wasted neck on it!  ;D The 280Imp-Imp  brass won't chamber in the Whelen Imp-Imp by a good ¼".  :-[ Errrr....All but the rim of 280 brass will fit.
