Rem. 870 express Magnum
« on: December 05, 2012, 02:07:36 AM »
I just picked up this Rem. 870 express Magnum in 20 gauge. I haven't had a shotgun in years, no quail in Alabama anymore, and haven't  known anyone with a rabbit dog in as long. The magnum part surprised me. Never thought of a magnum in a smaller bore. Anyone shoot magnum shells in this gun? I suppose you could use them on deer.
The gun has the three screw in chokes. haven't had time to really pattern it to see what it will do, but i will when the rain stops.
What are you guys experience with this gun?

Most newer 20 gauges are chambered in 3" mag regardless of make.  Personally, I see little advantage in using 3" magnums for most hunting, one exception is waterfowl hunting with steel shot, another is turkey hunting.
I've owned a few 870's over the years, mostly the Wingmaster version.  Right now I have a 20 gauge Express model I bought used about 7 or 8 years ago.  Never had any problems with any of them.
