Martini #6 .22 rim fire
« on: December 05, 2012, 04:40:45 AM »
I just picked up what appears to be a Martini #6 chambered in .22 rimfire. No peepsight-its been D&T  for a scope and the buttstock  ''altered'' by adding a cheek piece[gosh awful job] Not sure if its restorable or not-I may have to order a replacement buttstock from Boyds. The #6 looks to be a ''walking gun''rather than a bench rest target rifle-which suits me fine-and with my aging eyes, a scope is more practical anyway.
At this point-I'm looking for information on this model-does anyone have one?It doesn't look like its been rebarreled, and the barrel is a medium weight.

for a rifle that was once considered a mainstay for target shooting-I'm surprised there is so little information or even interest in these fine old rifles.Other older rifles have occasionaly been brought back into production as ''retro'' models ,but not so the Martini.Don't know why, although there is some following of them by people who like the older type actions and rifles.Personally,I'm intrigued by them-they are a piece of our history, and saw use in many wars and developing countries around the world

I have a 12/15 and a 13 takedown that no longer takes down. Barrel is screwed in as on the 12/15. Both shoot great eyes when they cooperate. Try assra.com for more info regarding your #6. Frank

Ratherbefishin

So you have a little Martini, what do you really want to do with it?  Here's your model 6 Martini
http://rifleman.org.uk/BSA_Model_6.html

If its restoration I don't think that Boyds has the type of stock that you would need need.

A good place to begin might be assra.com go to single shot rifles and search for martini.   Lots of knowledge over there.

Possible source of spare parts here:  http://rifleman.org.uk/BSA_Spares.htm

additional data source  http://www.martinihenry.com/links.htm

Hope this helps

Oh, wouldnt we all....
Ive had several, love 'em; the metallurgy is second to none and the design of the small action is so sweet. I have a No.8, 22LR, that is my 'stalking rifle'; way lighter than the 12/15 or MkIII International by (pun intended) a long shot!
Where are you at on this project these days?
