Uniden Scanners...

Did a little searching in this forum and found some info, but I am inquiring again...

I want a basic scanner for local police, EMS, weather, etc...

I see Uniden  offers 100, 200, and 300 channel stuff...

I was thinking the 200 but I don't know if I need that many channels or not...

Are the Unidens a fair to good investment for the price...

I think I want a desktop model as opposed to a handheld..

Any suggestions?...

I can't imagine keeping several hundred channels straight in my mind. But...
 
I have a handheld, I take to races. I program it to use the car number as the channel number very simple to see who's who. I only need 43 channels of the 100 available but nice to have channel 99 be car 99. I could see it may be nice to come up with a system of say any 100 series is police 200 fire and 300 ambulance say. 110 is local 120 is state 130 is nearby town 140 another nearby town etc,.
I live in a rural area and and would not have use for so many options as I only recieve about 10 different channels total. I also know nothing about the trunking and all other manner of options. It seems to me anything really interesting gets handled by cell phone these days. 
 
No doubt someone will have better answers.

I have a uniden 350c that is plenty of scanner for me. Nice desktop model you ought to check it out.
