30 carbine barrel
« on: December 05, 2012, 08:35:46 PM »
Did T/C ever make a barrel in 30 Carbine? I have been looking but haven't seen one for sale.

I have a 23 inch from MGM stainless and I have a super 14 from TC stainless and the 14 is listed in the contender classified they are a great shooting barrel and the ammo is not to high.
I really love mine, carried one for a year back in 52 in Korea but it was a m2 carbine which you could switch on to full auto if the need arose.

I am thinking about it. I was digging through my Box O Stuff and found a bunch of 30 carbine brass and some dies for 30 M1.  The dies have no manufacturer brand name on them and only consist of two dies. The dies have a black oxide type of finish on them.  All the dies I have looked at for 30 carbine have 3 dies. The deprimer die  appears to be the the belling die also and then there is a seater die. I have nothing chambered in 30 carbine and havent played with the dies to see if they resize the brass I have. Do 30 carbine dies usually have 3 dies and if they do, is the deprimer pin on the secondary die that bells the case? I may be missing the sizing die. All 3 die sets that I own have the deprimer on the sizer die and this is what is confusing me.
I just went out and resized some of the brass and my two die set definitely resizes and bells in that one die. Has anyone seen a set of dies like this? I have a 30-30 Hunter barrel and except for saving a bunch of powder and less recoil I wonder if it is worth investing in another barrel. Maybe I should just keep my eyes open for a Ruger Blackhawk in 30 carbine?

The set I have are by Lyman American and are a 3 die set and are chrome plated or very high polished, I have never used them as of yet as I was given a large amount of ammo plus I picked up several boxes at the gun show as the vender had a big sale on them, I know it is a fun round to shoot and with the new MGM barrel I am realy enjoying it. All the Blackhawks that I have seen at the gun shows were in the 450.00 to 500.00 price range but they were nice but also much more than a barrel.

My Lee die set has three dies.  I've used those dies for over 25 years and they still work great.  There is a resizer-decapper, a seater-crimper, and a neck flaring die which was really used as a "powder through" die for use when loading progressively.  I capped the die and just use the flaring portion now these days since I stopped loading progressively.

Ruger Blackhaws in .30 carb are really fun but make sure you have your ear protection.  That round in a revolver has to be the LOUDEST thing I've ever heard.
