(AP) — A Lexington church that serves homeless people is struggling to continue it ministry after someone stole the congregation's van.
Minister James Atherton of Hope Springs Community Church told WKYT-TV (
http://bit.ly/VGmAdt ) the van was stolen before his church was scheduled to pick up people so they could do their laundry last week. First United Methodist volunteered its van for Wednesday night's laundry need.
Atherton said Hope Springs usually transports 150 people per week for various purposes.
Church volunteer Cindy Snider said she used to live at the Salvation Army shelter and depended on the church's ministries. She now lives on her own and gives back by cooking for homeless people and the theft of the van upset her.
Church members hope whoever stole the van will return it.
