The bandsaw in the shop has been telling me the barrel is too long also.

Lol, I haven't even gotten my .17 Sportster yet, and I was thinking I wanted to trim the barrel a bit. With the laser flat path of a .17hmr I don't think taking a few inches off the barrel would affect the accuracy yeah?
Let me know when and how much you trim it down. I wanna take a gander at it if I could ! :)

I know a bunch of guys have 17hm2 shorties but I havent seen any examples of 17hmrs.  Im thinkin 18 inches?

18" would look sweet. i just took out my Handi Rifle today after replying to you earlier, just to mess aorund with measurments. i was thinking of taking my .45-70 handi down to 18.5"! i think it'd look BEAST!

Great mines.....Ive got 1 of my 45-70s cut to 18 already.  Ill put a pick up when i get home later in the week.  It is a nice little shorty.

This is what mine looks like now. With a 14" long scope on such a small gun as it is, it kind of already looks a little snubb-nosey. But I thinka  couple more inches would look great! Let me know what you think, and how much you'd personally take off.
Is your .45-70 a Handi btw?

Since that post, I have decided not to trim the barrel. I took that particular Pentax scope off my Handi and threw it on my .17 Sportster. Gonna try and freshen up my open sights on my .45-70 :)

I'm sure all ya'll know this, but keep it over 26" overall as well......knew a guy who got arrested for making a "pistol" out of an old Russky rifle, the barrel was legal but overall he was under...
