WHat's up with that? Naming a snow storm?
« on: December 09, 2012, 03:54:35 PM »
We got a foot of snow today, nothin unusual at all around here during winter. Checked the weather and they had a name for the storm. Is this just another attempt at fomenting crisis by recasting normal weather as some kind of catastrophe?

Maybe the Midwestern weathermen have a little hurricane envy.
We got a foot of snow here once and it had a name; Winter Storm of '93.
Yall probably call a foot of snow something like "last Thursday".

We truly barely notice these things, except that it creates a small amount of inconvenience because of having to clear the driveway and kennel. Other than that, it's a good thing because it means theres good snow for skiing, snowmobiling, rabbit hunting, etc.

Its probably easier to over sensationalize a storm that actually has a name. Maybe they will start naming summer time thunder storms too. Why stop there lets go with "Low pressure system Bob is set to unleash havoc on the heartland!"

How the heck are you going to sell a product with no name?

From now on, cool breezes will be called PowPow. Too late, I already called it.
Next July, when a cool breeze blows, just say "here comes Cool Breeze PowPow".

Of course NOAA could sell the naming rights of storms to major corporations.
Hurricane Aflac or The Geico Winter Storm.

Naming snow storms is silly. What I hate is referring to a flurry as a SNOW SHOWER, I hate that term. Snow FLURRIES, RAIN showers. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

With the economy as it is there have been severe budget cutbacks up here. Snow fence was one of the first cuts. ;D

Ya'll watch the southern border and maybe we could see our way clear to address the snow thing. ;)

The snow fall ended up setting a new December record of officially 10.5". We got a few more than that. Morning commute usually takes 45 minutes, today it took just over an hour. Compare that to a typhoon or a hurricane, when almost nobody even thinks of going to work the next day. Here the schools are all open, everyone is expected to be at work.

Rain is what really slows traffic here. Get a gentle steady rain and every body freaks out and starts driving 2mph.

in deference to Cynthia McKinney, I say name the first snow storm, Sha-nay-nay...
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

It doesn't snow here often (except in the mountains), but when it does, I have a few names for it.

Fortunately they are obsolete because of the internet.  A complete waste of time, and strictly for nostalgia buffs.

I never use television any more for any weather information, and you could set the daily newspaper in front of me opened to the weather page and I would not even look at it. Radio? Forget it. I remember that I used to listen to radio for the weather and by the time they got around to saying what todays' and tomorrow's weather would be like, I had quit listening and missed it. Now that I have a better resource, I have quit listening for good.
