Hard to prime 460 brass
« on: December 10, 2012, 02:53:57 PM »
I am having a very hard time priming my starline 460 brass. its about all I can do to get the primer level or below the brass. I am using cci 200 primers, starline brass, and a rcbs hand primer. when I do get the primer level or below the brass its is marking the primer. anyone else have this problem? maybe I should try another primer?

Going to a softer primer like Federal, Winchester or Remington should solve your problem.  Alternatively, you could use an alternate method of priming with more mechanical advantage such as the RCBS priming die.  As for "marking the primer," I probably wouldn't worry about that.

Grumulkin, Thank you for the come back.
I tried Federal and Winchester and they both worked very well. I had never ran into that problem before. This old dog learned something today.
Is there a brand of primer that you prefer for big bore handguns?

I generally use Federal 210M primers for those handgun loads needing large rifle primers but there are times I use others for various reasons.  For instance, in a 357 Herrett I use CCI 250 primers because it shoots a lot better with those.
