Problem with a .460 Rowland reload and pistol
« on: December 11, 2012, 05:31:31 AM »
I have been reloading for a 1911 in .460 Rowland.

My problem is that the first round fired hits approx 4 inches right of point of aim.  Rounds 2 thru whatever shoot to point of aim.  This is repeatable.  Changes in magazines, bullets, powder, and method of loading the first round into the chamber make no difference.  Brass can be new or once fired with the same result

I returned it to the maker, who did not have the same problem with factory ammo.  This leads me to think it's my reloads.  I have a number of handguns, including 1911's and don't have this problem with any other gun.

When I first started shooting the gun, I did not have the problem.  I must have changed something.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Do you clean your firearm each time?  Maybe your 1911 likes it dirty.  A lot of my guns shoot first 1 or 2 shots off and then center in.  I cannot abide a dirty gun for long though, so I usually ignore the first couple or shoot at a berm.

No, I don't clean it each time.  I'll wipe it down and lube it a bit, but not really clean it.

The frustrating thing is that I can get it to repeat the problem 3 or 4 magazines in a row.  I'll wind up with two distinct groups on the paper.
