Myself I have not shot a variety of chokes on shotguns. How is the full choke? Is it possible to get a good ammount of spread even at upwards of 30-40 yards?

Very odd, as of yesterday (I believe) Cheaperthandirt does not sell firearms, nor give out ballparks ranges of the Price. Very odd. Anyone know what happened.

They still list em.

Not for me, it doesn't even have the "Weapons" tab anymore. I just read something online about cheaperthandirt suspending their firearms sales for awhile. I don't know why...

It was actually Evan's quote, not mine, re: CTD 'apparently' not selling firearms any longer. He was asking why that might be the case.

sorry to butt in late.. .
what are you wanting to shoot at?
clays generally are shot with more
open chokes (hence "skeet" chokes being
just a little tighter than cylinder bore)
and turkey hunting is mostly done with
tighter chokes ( hence turkey-extra full
and the warnings"for use with lead shot only")

if you can't find or don't want a h&r with screw
in chokes for interchangeabilty, a good compromise
is to get a topper or pardner single with a
modified choke. i have one that i can bust
a clay bird or a real bird or a deer or a
thug with. after christmas, look in your local
pawn shops and classifieds and you'll
likely find one for a good price. my
favorite one costs all of 50.00 a good
while back and i'm sure you can get one
for not much more now. when you don't
have to fork over a lot, it leaves a lot of
room for mods if you so desire.
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

All Butt-in's are welcome. I like to know what others thoughts/opinions are.
I dig the single shot firearms. I have a Handi in .45-70, and just recieved my .17 Sportster about a week ago and loving it. I was contemplating whther to get a pump or not. I love shooting my brothers Remington 870, but I love my single shots even more. For me atleast, I feel I save on ammo and it ensure I take my time while lining up my shot, whether it be for hunting or even simple skeetin'. So, with that being said. I would love to welcome another single shot H&R to my mini arsenal of long guns.
I love the camo stock and fore grip of the Turkey Pardner. Now I know someone said single shots are not really ideal for skeet, which I agree, especially if going for a follow up shot. Soooo, I was also looking at the (Mossberg) Maverick Hunter Over/Under. All flat black, really clean looking. And right under $400.
If I were to get the Pardner Turkey. I'd trim the barrel down 2 inches or so. And just have it threaded at the end by a gunsmith. As suggested by someone.

if you were incline to swap  barrels....i don't

Almost seems like a bigger hassle than just buying the turkey and getting the barrel threaded for chokes.
Would it cost any cheaper?

At the price of H&R shotguns used just buy what gauge and choke you want and use 'em. My old 12ga. with the fixed full choke will bust turkey heads just fine.

Is a full choke still a good spread?

Full choke works fine with Federal Flitecontrol ammo for turkey, in fact that's what Federal recommends as opposed to any tighter choke.  ;)

As far as Cheaper than Dirt goes, everybody needs to remember the traitors and not do bizz with 'em, I'd rather lose 'em as a source of goodies than fund them when they turn their backs on us   >:(  Have a nice day   :D

Personally I don't deal with cheaperthandirt for firearms nor do I ammo. I simply use them as a "price check" if you will for firearms. I still support my small local sporting good store :D
