Now that rifle season is over how did you do?

Well I hunted bradford county outside of towanda. First week doe was closed hunted wed,thur,fri, and first saturday. Saw doe on wed and thursday all day sits. did i mention it was cold those days   Friday hunted till 10 decided to walk to the car warm up and eat a bit. headed back to my blind about 12. i couldnt belive it less than 10 yards from my spot there was a tree rubbed up the size of my calf with the shreading sitting on top of the snow fresh from when i left. saw nothing the rest of the day.  couple shots saturday on the hill early morning no deer so my rifle season ended without a deer. I wasnt alone I only saw one deer hanging at any cabin in 4 days. When i arived on tuesday the most crowded cabin had said that in 2 days they had not seen one deer.

 Spent the first two days of the season east of Tionesta. I saw one deer the first day lurking through some real thick stuff, not sure if it was a buck or doe. Second day I found some tracks of a yearling(1) and I presume the small racked buck I saw in bear season but no sightings and no shots heard. The first Saturday I hunted near Hulton, this was also the first day of doe. Only heard a few shots (probably could have been counted on both hands) and saw a few tracks all of which appeared to be young deer. No deer seen.  Was not able to get out the second Saturday as I was sick but heard one shot around my home which is in a rural agricultural area.
 One thing I did observe was more grouse than I have seen in my hunting history and a lot of squirrels. Maybe it is time to fill the freezer with smaller game.

Both my son and myself got permission to hunt a farm we used to hunt before it was sold. Since we knew how and where the deer movement was on this property we had a pretty good season. I shot a small doe in the early in-line season and shot another doe on the first Saturday. My son also got a doe at the beginning of the second week so with three in the freezers we quit for the season. We have three tags remaining so maybe we're saving a few deer for next year.

The new owner has had this farm posted ever since he bought it and is trying to establish grapes and eventually a winery. One problem he has is with deer eating the vines and fruit. His neighbors don't shoot does so I happened to stop and chat at an appropriate time, inquiring about hunting. He asked whether we shot does and I told him we could abide by whatever he wanted. He said to take any does we can. Made all of us happy with the results. And neither he or his wife eat venison which we would have gladly shared. We did get him a gift certificate from a fine local restaurant to show our appreciation.

Going to stick to just rifle season here.  Had a day in for opener, but went into work to get my vacation day back with plans to hunt after work.  Hit a very hard hit sgl.  Heard a couple shots from a drive and headed away from them.  Hit a small clearing most don't bother fighting over to.  Saw nothing until I put the glasses up and low and behold a doe just inside the tree line.  Waited tool she hit the clearing and put her down.

Took a halfday wed to hunt in the snow and caught a quick look at a small buck and followed the tracks until I hit posted signs.    Took a slide down a bank and called out a day when the back started to lock up.  Spinal fusion in lower back so not risking it since we left for Disney on Saturday.  Lost the second week, but saw a ton of deer in the park including does feeding amongst the fake animals on the train ride.

Dream season?  No, but nothing to complain about.  Still have late archery, waterfowl, predators and small game to chase for longer than the wife would like.

Season started out bad. I had a very bad cold. First day I did not get out until noon, I saw several Does. First Saturday still sick, but I did get out in the morning. More Doe’s running around nothing with antlers. But then it all came together the last Saturday, Very nice 9 point stepped out of the pines, One shot with my 3030 with a 170 grain Lyman cast bullet. The Deer is now at the taxidermist. I do have an unfair advantage I own land in 2B Westmoreland County. We have the best of both worlds, lots of Deer, and we can use rifles.

  I had to work opening day but my friends did good. A monster 10 a great 8 a nice 8 and a basket 7. Saturday saw my friends son drop an odd ball 9 and my son took a leg shot(Wounded) four point. We also filled the freezers with doe and I passed on about 15 bucks. I have a big 10 hanging on my wall. I will not shoot a buck that can not measure up to him. I'd just as soon let it grow up or let the kids have a wack at them. Killing doe for the freezer is enough fun for me. We do real good where I hunt, but we try to manage the herd too. It looks like the neighbors do too because the herd is impressive.  I wish more of you could see deer the way we do. It would go a long way towards getting more kids interested it the hunting sports.
