CVA Scout trouble

I bought a CVA Scout to use as a loaner for new hunters this season. I have been unable to get it to group any better than 6" at 50 yards. I've used cast boolits, Speer JSP and Hornady Leverevolution bullets. I have not tried factory ammo you due to the cost. [/size]Has anyone else had problems with the Scout in .44 mag? [/size]If you are having success, what load are you using?[/color][/size]The gun seems tight. I've double checked the mount and the rings. I was convinced it was the scope, a new Nikon 3x9, so I mounted a new Sightron 3x9. Same groups.
I called CVA and they said they haven't heard of anyone having problems. They suggested I buy factory Leverevolution cartridges and try them. This I will do. In the mean time I was wondering if my groups were typical of what others are getting?[/color]

You may be the individual that pm'd me about the scout rifle, on another forum.  I've had my CVA Scout rifle for 2 yrs.  I've only shot leverevolution factory loads thru it, so far.  I've had 3, 1 shot kills with it so far.  Haven't really done any handloading for it so far.  I suspcion it may be your handloads.  The gun could have a somewhat longer throat and need the bullets set out farther.  Or, it could be the powder you are using.  Do as CVA suggests, and try a box of the LE factory loads.  Hope this helps.

Yes. I did post up on anther forum. Thanks for the tips. The next step is the factory LEs. Will update this post as the problem is solved.

I may be completely wrong in my remembering, but it seems to me I heard that CVA uses a much faster twist rate for the 44 than say H&R. Have you tried any of the heavier bullets?

how are you holding the rifle to shoot it, saw the same problem with a friend's Handi 243. He was resting the front handguard on the sandbag when he shot it, and his groups were like shotgun patterns. Had him rest his hand on the bag with the rifle laying on his hand, now he was shooting nice groups and he was able to sight the gun for his son to use for hunting. On this site it has been said to rest the rifle on the action not the fore-end which will accomplish the same results. Have not tried that yet. JimP.

Actually, i've noticed this while shooting 3 different single shot break open rifles from 3 different makers. Holding the forearm with the support hand and resting the back of the support arm on the sandbag produced excellent results. Resting the rifle dirctly on bags produced horrible patterns.
Plus, the handloads may not be what the rifle likes.
