got to find a differnt muzzle loader projectile.
« on: December 16, 2012, 01:20:10 AM »
been shooting 250 xtps out of my inline with 90 grains of 777. Never seen such a destructive combo. Even a 300wby at 50 yards pails in comparison. Next year im going to have to find a muzzle loader specific bullet that shoots well in my gun!! Even perfect shots 6 inches behind the shoulder broadside tear up the sholders.

Lloyd, I'm partial to the non-magnum 300 grain .452 XTP.  I get pass through shots for good blood trail, little to none of the fragmentation of the 240 and 250 grain XTPs and quickly dead deer.  My usual load is likely clocking in the 2000 to 21000 FPS range.

I know that's a typo.  Still, it is funny to see that your typed "upper limit" at ~14,000 mph is almost Planet Earth Escape Velocity!!! hehe...

I have good results with the .429 Hornady XTP in 300gr and 80grs FFF Goex...

I've also heard of good results with the .452 Speer Deep Curl in either 250 or 300gr...

Hey, it's still between 2000 and 21000 isn't it?

So much for my proof reading skills...

I have used the FTX Hornady in .452 at 250 grains at the range. The shoot flatter at 200 yards then the XTP and are accurate.
