Availability of new G2's
« on: December 17, 2012, 04:49:37 PM »
Can anybody tell me what the deal is with the new Contender G2's. I have had a stainless Receiver ordered for over a month now and they are not available. Does T/C only make a run of these a couple times a year. Maybe S&W is doing away with them? I can't believe they are not popular enough. I have several first generation receivers and barrels but would like a stainless G2. Any info would be appreciated.

A recent email (Nov 7, 2012) from Wayne Goodwyn of TC Customer Service said that they were scheduled to start a run of G2 frames the last week of November.

I keep checking Gallery of Guns and I haven't seen any listed yet. So who really knows....?

I sure don't see very many Contender barrels in the pipeline either.....

I was told by a distributor that S&W is trying to sell off its contender operation.  Failing that, they intend to stop production in the not too distant future.

I heard something similar but not that the Contender line is being sold, just discontinued. Its anyone's guess as to why. I was fortunate to find a used stainless G2 this past summer at a fair price and now, am really glad i did.

I spoke with the folks at S & W today. They told me their still trying to get all the equipment moved down from the T/C plant in NH to Massachusetts. They are still making Contender frames.

Sounds like all the T/C guns are in short supply. Most places are really low on smokepoles if not completely out. I think they are mainly focusing on Encore's.

I guess time will tell.

I would think Contenders are not too high on the priority list for S&W.  I'm just guessing they are probably less than 1% of their total sales.

I contacted T/C today via live chat on there website and this is what i was told: "We have not manufactured the G2 in almost a year now. It has not been discontinued but at this time I'm not sure when they will be manufactured again." I was also told "to check back in February to see if we have an update." So unless I can find a straggler on somebodies shelf somewhere I don't see a new Stainless G2 in the real near future.

You might try some auction sites.  There is at least one ss g2 available on one i just saw.  You may have to buy a complete pistol and part the barrel.
